Bookshelf Style

When I was growing up, I pined for this three story doll-house in the Sears Christmas catalog, EVERY STINKING YEAR. Santa never picked up on the hint, so my Barbies had to make do with some cheapy bookshelves in my room. What that has to do with this redo, I don’t know.
But I do know that Katherine dolled up her cheapy, pine bookshelves! She simply added some rosettes and trim and a two tone paint job. Now it looks amazing! Thanks for sharing Katherine! Check it out on her blog Old Branch Hollow.

Purple Pea Kitchen

So the mega trend in kitchens lately seems to be going white. I’m behind it, I think it looks fresh and classic at the same time. It really lends itself to a cleaner, uncluttered look. I like how Kristina opted not to decorate the tops of her cupboards here. I think people are starting to refrain from stuffing decor in every available space these days, and the look is much improved!
And did you notice how she had some of the cupboards routered to add glass panels? I didn’t know you could even do that to builder-grade, non custom cabinets! Neato! Check out more on her blog The Purple Pea. Thanks Kristina!

One If By Land

I bet you could go to your local thriftstore today and find heaps of abandoned brass light fixtures just like this one. You could take one home, gut its innards, give it a little spray paint therapy and ta da! You will have made yourself a great display lantern like Jessica from Running with Scissors
I think it would look great with a big candle in there. Reminds me of Michelle’s similar fixture redos over at Three Men and a Lady. Simply amazing!

Close Shave

By now we should all know that even the most outdated and stanky furniture can be revived with a coat of paint. But even I would probably have passed this hutch by, thanks to that super 70’s gold detailing on the glass panels.
But Sonia just shaved it right off with a razor scraper and yup, you guessed it, transformed the whole piece into a vision in white. Love the knobs and the print lining the back! Check out the details on her blog Sonnie Sue.

Zài Jiàn!

Did you know that the word ‘futon’ translates into ‘unwanted guest’ in Chinese? Ok, so that might not be entirely true. However, this room was decidedly unwelcoming to guests. And small children. And people afraid of red. So Kristen decided to take it back from really red man-cave w/ futon status and upgrade it to bonafide guestroom. Looks cozy! Check out more on her blog, Team Fuest.

Chesty

Lauren from Inspire Me redid this lovely chest in a soft turquoise with a walnut oil glaze. It’s now a favorite hang out spot for her dogs. My dogs are not nearly as spoiled! But that’s because they are dumb, excitable little things that wee all over the place the minute they set foot in the house. So they usually stay outside, where the furniture is much less glamorous, and much more likely to get wet … if you know what I mean. Thanks Lauren!
