From Bamboo to Ooh!

Have you ever saved up to buy something nice, only to discover that once you got it home, you don’t really like it? What would you call that, decorators remorse? That’s no fun.
That’s what happened when Jolie bought this bamboo dresser. After about 4 years, she finally decided she’d had enough of its bambooiness and gave it a makeover more suited to her style. I think it looks fantastic! Check it out on her blog Shopping Candy. Thanks Jolie!

Let’s Hear it for the Boys!

I’m not sure, but I’m pretty sure the majority of Better After’s readers are ladykind. But once in a while I get submissions from a fellow or two, which I love. Usually it’s the girls who have to convince the boys that the rain-soaked plaid sofa that they dragged in from the neighbor’s curb has potential, can’t you see it? POTENTIAL! So I appreciate a man who can build and design and see that crusty old sofa, (or rusty old desk, in this case) for what it could be.
Now, for your Friday enjoyment, may I offer up some manly redos? These are courtesy of Jason and his team at Purpose Restoration, and let me tell you, they don’t mess around.

Have your lady-senses been shocked? Quite possibly the most testosterone-laden redo I’ve seen yet. Purpose Restoration often incorporates graffiti inspired artwork into their designs. “Words are loaded pistols,” love that. See it HERE.

Can’t say I would have ever considered automotive lacquer as a finish, but it looks magical on this metal dresser. See it HERE.

Not everything is guns and graffiti, this piece incorporates soft colors and a nature-inspired design. See it HERE.

And how great is this? A whimsical take on what was a just plain and simple armoire. See it HERE.
It’s obvious that Purpose Restoration puts a lot of vision and skill into their work. You can check out way more before and afters over on their website HERE. Thanks Jason!

Fanny Fan

Much like Better After reader Sole, I too have lusted after lovely aged-bronze antique fans like you see for sale at Pottery Barn and the like. But fifty plus bones for a fan? That’s not cool. (pun!) So, for the price of a can of oil-rubbed-bronze spray paint, she now has the next best thing.
Add this to the ever-growing list, “I didn’t know I could paint THAT!” Looks great, thanks Sole!

Sweet Stripes

“Hey, do these stripes make my dining room look fat?”
“No way, more like phat! Ha ha!”
 I’ll stop now.
As far as befores go, this dining room was definitely not the worst thing we’ve ever seen. But with a little time, tape and paint, Tay took it from pretty fine to freakin’ fabulous! I love how she manages to have such a big impact while still using subdued colors. Cooool.
Check it out on her blog the Undomestic Momma.

T-t-telephone Table

Hello, hello baby, you called, I can’t hear a thing… But I am sick and tired of my phone ri-ring-ing…

(Sorry to start your morning off with Gaga…I hope that song is not in your head all day, like it will be in mine).

Andie was sick and tired of her telephone table taking up space in her garage. So one day she went on a painting spree and gussied her up with a coat of white and a new cushion cover. This is one of those redos that has me really thinking I need to go find a [insert whatever it is I never knew I needed until today], in this case: telephone table. Ga-ga-gorgeous!
