How much paneling could a painter paint?

Even though this picture was taken in broad daylight, as evidenced by the sunlight blazing in through the windows, and even with the overhead light turned on, it still managed to be a deep, dark hole of depressitude.  That is just way too much woodsy wood for one room.  Way too much woodsy wood for one room.  I made a tongue-twister!

Anyway, Abby was on a mission to de-darkify her home, and even hard-core wood lovers would agree that this is a change for the much better. Unless those hard-core wood lovers enjoy cooking in coffins, because that’s what this felt like before.

Love that she left the dark planks on the ceiling, it makes for a cool contrast, much like she did in her dining room makeover.  See more of Abby’s kitchen on her blog Chapter 37.

I’ve painted a bit of paneling in my time, so I can sympathize with how much work that must have been. The result is fantastic! That kitchen is perfectly quirky and adorable now.

Awesome! I love that she went with wood grain look on the counters even though she was painting over all the wood. Very cool.

The before is what my parents kitchen looked like when they bought their house. Only the counters were tomato red Formica. It was the first thing my mom changed, cause…way too much woodsy wood for one room.

This is quickly becoming one of my new favorite blogs!

That brighter paint really opened the room up and made it look so much bigger.
Keep the before and afters coming. Love them!

What an unbelievable change!! It’s gorgeous! I went to her blog, and she said the countertops are just stained pine boards with lots of floor sealant on them. They’re beautiful.

What a transformation! It took some real vision for Abby to see the potential in this space rather than do a tear down and remodel. It looks brand new!

Where the heck was that kitchen located? In a Submarine? A Hobbit’s cave? A prison cell in Alcatraz? Man, that was just naaaasty! Lerving the good vibes from the new kitchen!

I’m actually kind of in love with that white kitchen! The dark ceiling and those AMAZING countertops. Even though it is tiny I would totally base my future kitchen off of it!

Wow! I’ve painted paneling myself and know it takes a lot more work than painting a flat surface. The before, yep it felt like a coffin, was depressing but the after I love. The wood ceiling is perfect and something I would love to do in my home.

This IS a beautiful makeover for sure! If one must have such a teeny kitchen space to work in, then lightness is in order. Love the cool countertops as well.

I have painted paneling too-the ugly pressboard kind, and paint hides a multitude of sins, er, stains.

I’m glad that she didn’t rip out the kitchen and replace everything with new and shiny…. the after is a total transformation while still keeping the good wood underneath.

Hope all is going well with you.

I knew as soon as I saw that before pictures it was going to be Chapter 37’s house! That woman deserves some sort of medal for all the paneling she has painted in that place!!!!!!!! And it’s looking SO FANTASTIC! I want to feature her every week at my Trash 2 Treasure Tuesday party… but I try to be fair… sort of…… 🙂
