Woodworkers

Are you a wood purist? Probably not. I think I scared them off a long time ago.

But just because I post a plethora of painted pretties doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the simple beauty of the restrained and restained. Here are a couple of my recent favorites:

First one up from Lisa who finished this $40 Craiglist desk with Minwax Dark Walnut stain and new hardware for her son’s big-boy room. Such a classy, classic look!

And here is a table that Sarah scooped up when she saw it at a thriftstore for $6.50! She was afraid someone would snatch it up after she found it, so she took a random receipt out of her purse and wrote SOLD on the back and stuck it under the pricetag! Ha! I guess it’s every thifter for herself, but I’m going to do a double-take at anymore SOLD signs I see! (Or stock up on random receipts to keep in my purse). See it on her blog Sarah Elizabeth Design.

Sleepy Settee

Amber’s settee had a cute little figure and I’m not just talking about the one taking a siesta. Behind the faded velvet and crustified padding were some great lines — all this called for was a quick and easy reupholstering job. Ha! They are anything but. But it eventually turned out great, I love the contrast of the brown corduroy with the ladylike shape of the piece. Check it out on Amber’s blog, Webb World.

Eyeful

If you are an eagle-eyed viewer of this blog and you take a good hard look at Camilla’s nursery here, you might just notice that I had previously posted her changing table and nightstand that were resurrected from beyond the grave.

I can’t post the link right now, not because I’m being lazy (well, a little) but because I am not working on my regular computer. I am currently on my husband’s computer which he has hooked up to a 26″ widescreen TV, and I’m forced to sit on this little stool about six inches away from the screen and going absolutely bug-eyed. I think we need to makeover our technology set-up here.

Anyway, there are a ton of adorable little details all up in this room (I LOVE the curtains over the crib and the lampshade!)

Check them all out up close on Camilla’s blog, Rosy Red Buttons!

Stick Around

Trends that I hope continue to stick around in 2011 because I love them so:
– Limed wood
– Turquoise
– Grey
– Starburst Mirrors
– Chandeliers
– Horizontal Stripes
All Megan’s new foyer needs is a chandelier, and I might invite myself over and never leave! Check it out on her blog Miss Madison’s Charmed Life.

What about you? What trends do you hope outlive “trend” status? Any that you’d like to see take a hike? Tell me, tell me!

EAT.

Normally I’m not real fond decor that tries to boss me around. I’ve been in homes where every time I turn a corner I’m commanded to ENJOY or DREAM or CELEBRATE or REPENT or whatever. My mom has a little sign in her house that says BE AMAZING! I just can’t take the pressure! What if I’m only so-so? Then what, bossy little sign, then what?

However, I’d have no problemo cozying up in this little nook and obeying Michael’s adorable table’s orders to Eat. Although, I wish it said Eat! instead of Eat. Because then it sounds more like an invitation and less like a direct order, but that’s the just the nerdy punctuation nerd in me coming out. See it on his inspiring blog Inspired By Charm. Thanks Michael!

Blue or pink, what do you think?

Oona has a house exploding with character. It used to be pink, thus the name of her blog: Little Pink House. Then she tore a hole in the fabric of the internet and done painted it blue! I’m still trying to reconcile the two in my mind. “But it’s blue … and your blog says pink … I need a nap …”

Either/or, it still looks fantastic and I want it. And looking at it makes me also want to make gingerbread and merrily skip around in the yard. Don’t lie, you do too.
