Victrola’s Secret

Nicole from Noshings found a Victrola in the trash! Did you hear me?! A VICTROLA IN THE TRASH! Seriously, where are all these neighborhoods that are littered with cast-off antiques? Is it listed somewhere on the real estate spec sheets? 3 bed, 2 bath, 2 car garage, fenced yard, great schools and magical trash.

I’m loving it against the chartreuse wall. Thanks Nicole!

Make a Wish…

Are you hosting a baby shower or a birthday party soon? I am! Here’s a nifty little idea from Michelle to dress up ordinary prayer candles as guest-gifts or table decorations. I love how instantly classy they look with the vellum. Easy!

I can’t wait to give this one a try, although the upcoming birthday party is for my soon to be 9-year-old son, and I’m not sure his friends would appreciate a lovely monogrammed candle in their goody bags. Maybe next year.

See the how-to on Michelle’s blog Home Decor Budgetista.

Rowr!

I’m not trying to scare you away with this big lion face in your face. It’s part of a really imaginative makeover of a fairly commonplace dresser. (I think this is the third one just like it that I’ve featured in a week!)
Just scrolly-scroll down and see how Catherine combined the two into one fabulous piece! For a more detailed description of how this dresser came to be, (because all I can come up with is “Woah!”) check out her blog Freddy and Petunia.

Back to the Future

This kitchen had not been updated since … ever. My dear grandma has pretty much the same exact kitchen, except in lime green. I call it the Kitchen Time Forgot. Literally. You can open her freezer and find meat from the 70’s, that is no joke.

Chyanne’s parents were probably more up-to-date than that on their meat storage, but the kitchen was not. After years of putting their children through school, it was high time that they did something for themselves, and a kitchen redo was in order!

I’d love to show this to Grandma and inspire her, but since she about passes out when you try to clean out her freezer, I can’t imagine what would happen if we got her a stove with more than one working burner.

See more loveliness on Chyanne’s blog, Yuppie Lady.

Cornered

You won’t typically flip through a fancy design magazine and find TVs in every room, or in any room, actually. True, they aren’t the loveliest things to look upon. But unless you are an avid fireplace watcher, you probably have some sort of boxy entertainment device taking up space somewhere.

Jen worked her TV into what used to be a clunky-cornered waste-of-space living room with new built-ins that provide hearty amounts of storage and style. It really brightens up the whole space too. Everybody wins, even the fireplace watchers! Take a tour on her blog Frugal Jen.
