Awn and Awn

Jen formerly had a big, red, room of gloom.  I get that red is supposed to be a cheerful color, but too much and I feel like I’m sitting inside a mouth.  Which is inappropriate for any room, especially a dining room.  Also, all that red was fighting pretty hard against the hue of the hardwood floors, but now it’s a peaceful dining oasis!  I love the giant dandelion puff pendant, which I believe can be purchased from my boyfriend, IKEA.  And how about the little awning over the window?  It is actually extremely easy to do yourself, as I have learned from my secret lover, Pinterest.

Son of a Gun!

Surely you have seen all the cute little book nooks being fashioned out of corners and closets and whatnot these days?  Thrifty Decor Chick did a great one HERE.  I love the idea, but I just don’t have any closet space to spare.  Like I’m going to sacrifice my VHS collection and 20-gallon tote full of fabric scraps that I’ll never use for READING?!  Psh!  Well Jennifer rocked my world with this idea: a made-over gun rack!  Perfect for the closet challenged.  So cute!

Urning for You

Bonnie’s buffet was beautiful, but battered.  Ok, so it’s not really a buffet, but I needed to alliterate there.  Ok, so alliterate is not a verb. Whatever.  Oh snap, I just checked Dictionary.com and it IS a verb.  Double snap.  Anyway, so back to Bonnie.  She gave this vanity a double color treatment with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, starting with Antibes Green for the whole piece, then going over the details with Duck Egg Blue, which really make the urn and olive leaf details stand out so nicely.  Love it!  See more on Bonnie’s blog a wee Meenit.

Big Bertha

So this chair was suffering from some sort of personality disorder.  Ornate fussy fuss-pants frame mixed with some square-dancin’, corn-shuckin’ country checkered fabric.  Not a match made in heaven.  Not even a cute “opposites attract” kind of thing.

But freshened up with a clean white coat of paint and some smart stripes?  I’m all over that.  (And there’s room for you too, this thing is huge!)  Check out the whole process on Joy’s blog Girl V. The World.

25 In bathroom

Ahhh, feel better?

You deserve something extra beautiful today after the solid week of ugly lamp viewing that you endured last week.  This incredible bathroom remodel from Nancy and Tony at Dream It, Built It, Style It is sure to please.  Drink with your eyes.  Let the loveliness wash over you, hold you and caress you like a salve to your soul until you feel whole again.  Just try not to linger too long on the explosion of pink that was happening all over the place in the before.  I don’t want anyone coming down with PULSD. (post ugly lamp stress disorder).

UGLY LAMP WINNER!

We have a winner!
It was a close race between Pug-ly Lamp, Deerly Departed and Broken Leg Lamp, with each contestant averaging 25% of the votes, but it came down to only one.  The final, grand-prize winner and recipient of a $75 gift card to LightingDirect.com is ….

Broken Leg Lamp!

Congratulations on your utter ugliness, Broken Leg Lamp!  (And yes, Broken Leg Lamp is indeed a lamp, as someone conspiratorially whispered in the comments that it might not be so).  This lamp was a memento made for by Brittany’s father-in-law, for her husband Jared after he broke his leg over a decade ago!  Ew!  Well, give your in-laws a hug tonight Brittany, because they just helped you win the coveted title of Ugliest Lamp!

Second Place was just way too close to call, it changed every minute.  My personal vote was for Raging Man, I laughed out loud every time I looked at him, but dang, it was so hard to choose.   Thanks so much everyone for participating!  I can’t wait til next year!
