10 In living room

DIYaholic

If this room doesn’t look familiar to you, then you haven’t been following two of the best and brightest blogger girls out there, Roeshel from The DIY Showoff and Cassity from Remodelaholic.  They were recently chosen to compete against other design bloggers in the Shaw Floors HGTV Home Design Challenge, and this seaside inspired room is their horse in the race.  I’d be shaking in my boots if I was up against them!

It looks seriously fantastic. Suspiciously fantastic. Like they are possibly lying about this contest altogether and just ripped a page straight out of a magazine.  But they are way too sweet to do such a thing, and so very talented that I don’t really doubt them for a second.  Head on over to the contest page and send your vote their way! (Plus every vote for them is an entry to win a new floor for you!) Check it out HERE.

See all the details of this room on Roeshel’s blog, HERE.

Clowning Around

It was certainly lights out for this overly vibrant relic. It looks like it came from a going-out-of-business sale of a failed southwestern/circus themed hotel.  A hotel I would name: Sunset Under the Big Top.  But Husfruen decided it could be saved with a few coats of black Hammerite spray paint to give it more of a hammered metal finish, vs. a primary colored punch in the eye.  Looks absolutely fabulous!  Check it out on her blog Hilltop House.

High Brow

I have a very similar wall like this in my house: three square windows, super duper beige, and not a speck of trim to be found. I should really do something about that. I hate windows without trim, it’s like an eye without an eyebrow.  But why stop at the eyebrows when you can makeover the entire face, or er, wall?  That’s what Lindsay’s husband Drew did to this bedroom wall, hand staining each plank to create some serious visual interest.  I call this style Urban Rustic, which I just made up.  Oh wait, Google just told me that Urban Rustic is already the name of a smoothie shop in Brooklyn.  Sigh.  See more on their blog Lindsay and Drew.

PS: tufted houndstooth headboard, will you go out with me?

And everything nice!

Not that the humidifier, teensy wall decor, and mismatched furniture were necessarily bad …  but they weren’t anything you’d excitedly go showing off to your friends either.  That all changed when Julia gave her daughter’s bedroom a softer, girlier color palette and a symmetrical layout (oh, how me and my OCDness love symmetry) that really helps to define the space.  It’s perfect for a young girl, but with just the right amount of sophistication.  Sugar and spice!  See more from Julia right HERE.

Wack Wicker

You know how I whine a lot about never finding cool stuff at my local thrift stores?  Well, last week I went to Goodwill, and there before my eyes was a campaign style dresser and nightstand!  I couldn’t believe my luck; I never find that stuff!

I scurried as quickly as I could to get a closer look, and only then did I realize that the pieces of crap were made out of rotting wicker!  Ugh!  I have never seen such a thing as wicker campaign furniture, and never hope to again.  I went home and wallowed in bitter disappointment.  Then I looked at this fabulous campaign dresser makeover from Katie at  Wildwood Creek and jealously shook my fists at the sky while weeping.
