Get ready for picture overload! (Seriously, get ready. Like get a drink of water and change into some comfy pants). Here come the final room reveals of the Habitat for Humanity home that I was able to help furnish and decorate last week thanks to GMC. (Wondering what the heck I’m talking about? See part one here).
First up: Liz from Liz Marie Blog, who was in charge of the boy’s bedroom. It was so fun to watch this room come together especially, because that’s the room I had last year. This year there were two boys, ages 6 and 14, so her challenge was to find a look that would work for both ages. She totally delivered!
I love the combination of gray, red, and navy. She also found a huge basketball hoop and backboard for the wall and gave it a makeover with chalkboard paint. You can see the before and after of that over on my Facebook album, you know, if you want to.
I think the letters were the most expensive items in this room at $20 a piece, which ain’t bad at all. Plus, they are the perfect colors and the boys’ initials, so it would have been a crime NOT to buy them, right?
Carissa from Good n Crazy had the girl’s bedroom, which was on the smaller side, so outside of two twin beds and a dresser, there wasn’t room for much more. So she decided to fill it with bright colors and things that would make little girls squeal, like nail polish and craft supplies.
Sure enough, that’s exactly what they gravitated to when they got their first look! In a random stroke of crazy luck, Brooke just so happened to have two swatches of perfectly matching fabric to drape across the ends of the beds. You never know what a blogger might have in her purse. I currently have a hammer and spackle in mine. We’re handy to have around, is what I’m sayin’.
Next blogger up: Kirsten from Simply Grove. She is the really real deal. She’s an interior stylist by trade, and clients have flown her around the world just to work her magic in their spaces. Can you imagine if she rolled up to your house with a SUV full of goodies all ready to makeover your bedroom for free?
I love what she did in this room, fearlessly throwing together textures, from a tweed ottoman, to an Indian blanket, to a crocheted afghan. Plus she wasn’t afraid to combine all styles of furniture as well, and it somehow came together and looked amazing. She makes it look easy! Guess that’s why people pay her, huh? She didn’t ignore the bathroom either, keeping it simple with black and white. (One surefire way to make any bathroom look better in pictures? Close the lid. It’s like a million dollar makeover in two seconds).
And finally, the kitchen! Courtney from French Country Cottage had the brilliant idea to find things along the yardsale that could be used as-is. Meaning, no last minute spray painting in the back-yard and furiously trying to dry the final coat of lacquer on the tabletop with a hair dryer minutes before the homeowners arrive. She saved herself a lot of time and grief and probably and ulcer that way. I might know that from experience …

She accessorized the wall with silver platters, and a large chalkboard sign that was a magnet for the younger kids.

Even though I only played a tiny role in all the work that went into this home, it was still SO rewarding to watch them wander around and take everything in. I can’t imagine going from sharing a single mattress and not even owning a kitchen table, to having an entire home filled with furniture and decorated with love the very next day.
Gah! I have something in my eye! Or as our GMC fleet leader Connie would say, “My eyes are sweating.”
