Is there anything more oppressive than floor to ceiling brown paneling? In a basement, no less? It wasn’t a space that sparked much creative brain activity, other than maybe my favorite game, “What’s The Best Way To Escape This Area In A Hostage Situation?” Yeah. I can be a little paranoid sometimes. My other favorite game is “Remember Everything About This Exact Moment In Case You Need It Later For An Alibi.” But ANYWAY. Enough about me.

This poster bed was a bit of an intimidating sight, without anything else nearby to soften it. But Mary Ann at Classic Casual Home changed that with shower curtains! Now before you run off to go tack your vinyl Hawaiian beach shower curtain behind your bed, let me explain that these were extra-long ticking stripe fabric curtains found on Etsy. (Although I actually did own that Hawaiian curtain, and it actually hung on my wall as decor. I was in college. It was an … experimental time).
New pillows and bedding complete the look, and I especially love how she painted the lamps black too. They anchor the white dressers and add a masculine touch to this room (something her college-age son who occupies it probably appreciates).

Holy moly, are you watching The Voice? I used to love that show. I can’t even handle it lately. These battle rounds are the worst! It’s just a scream-fest to see who can out-shout R. Kelly songs at each other. I can’t even handle it. My husband, on the other hand, is a huge fan. I’m afraid we are going to be those people who need the special tv-watching headphones to keep our marriage alive sooner than we think.
But here’s something I could watch all day: furniture transformations! Stephanie at Simply Swider wanted a sleek new TV console. What she found was an outdated TV console from a hotel liquidation for $30. Close enough. With fresh paint and a Greek-key design she made with trim pieces, it totally looks the part now. Swanky!
So, did I tell you that I’m trying the Paleo diet for the month of April? I’ve heard such good things, and my friends that do it seem to love it. I’ve never done anything this strict before, and I’m basically married to carbs and in a serious relationship with dairy, so we’ll see how it goes. So far so good, but I’ve only been at it for like … 26 hours. Any other Paleo eaters out there? I’d love some recipe ideas, otherwise it will be a loooong month of chicken and sweet potatoes over here.

And speaking of lamps, Paula at Sweet Pea had one! It was unnatractive. So unattractive that she found it in a dumpster, not even cute enough to be donated to Goodwill. That didn’t scare Paula off though. All it took for a happy ending was a little rust removal, fresh paint, and a pretty paisley lampshade.

Things are a little hurky-jerky around the blog right now thanks to some behind-the-scenes technical difficulties. Please bear with me. My computer is basically on its deathbed. But I refuse to give up on it! It’s been clinging to life for so long. I know its days are numbered; the signs are all there. Just last week my monitor gave its final death gasp in the form of rapid blinking and a frightening sizzling sound. I’m sure my hard drive is next. $igh.
