So, did I tell you that I’m trying the Paleo diet for the month of April? I’ve heard such good things, and my friends that do it seem to love it. I’ve never done anything this strict before, and I’m basically married to carbs and in a serious relationship with dairy, so we’ll see how it goes. So far so good, but I’ve only been at it for like … 26 hours. Any other Paleo eaters out there? I’d love some recipe ideas, otherwise it will be a loooong month of chicken and sweet potatoes over here.
<insert semi-clever segue into lamp makeovers>
And speaking of lamps, Paula at Sweet Pea had one! It was unnatractive. So unattractive that she found it in a dumpster, not even cute enough to be donated to Goodwill. That didn’t scare Paula off though. All it took for a happy ending was a little rust removal, fresh paint, and a pretty paisley lampshade.
And now that Christy got her hands on this thrift-store lamp, it looks like it could easily be for sale in a fancy and overpriced catalog. Her price? Three dollars! See more on her blog Our Southern Home.

April 2, 2014 at 9:08 AMGo check out NomNomPaleo at http://nomnompaleo.com/ She’s got a ton of good recipes and is so into it that it makes you believe you can do it too! I do it periodically when I’ve overindulged in carbs.

April 2, 2014 at 9:59 AMI love the paisley shade with the gold and silver base. Very nice! The distressed wood base of the other lamp is great, as well. Bravo!

April 2, 2014 at 10:14 AMA great Paleo resource is Melissa over at http://www.theclothesmakethegirl.com/. She wrote the two Well Fed Paleo cookbooks which I use all the time. I’m not sure I could have stuck with Paleo had it not been for her recipes and guidance. Good luck!

April 2, 2014 at 10:38 AMIt’s still chicken but I made teriyaki chicken last night and it was AMAZING. I think it’s paleo? It does have cornstarch, I’m not sure if that’s allowed, but I’m sure it would work fine if you omitted that ingredient.
We ate oven roasted asparagus with this. Btw, pretty much every vegetable is amazing if you toss it with olive oil and maybe a little salt and pepper and roast it in the oven.

April 2, 2014 at 1:10 PMA good friend of mine recently had to go paleo for health reasons, and she loves the cookbook Against All Grain. Here’s a link to info about the book: http://againstallgrain.com/buy-it-now/.

April 2, 2014 at 2:43 PMGood luck with your health choice! I’ve been Paleo/LCHF (low carb high fat) for over a year and feel SO much better. You’ll feel amazing, but you have to give it a good chance. Expect to get the low-carb flu but keep going… you’ll be rewarded. I also agree that Nom Nom Paleo and The Clothes Fit the Girl are fabulous sites. We do fewer carbs and more fat because of diabetes, and the Diet Doctor is a great resource — full of encouragement and scientific info.

April 3, 2014 at 8:44 AMWhy only a month? It’s not a fad diet, it’s a way to eat cleaner, better. So many of us do it to alleviate health issues. I’m curious why you’d try it for only the length of time it takes to convert your body over to burn carbs more efficiently. The first month is the hardest part. Stick around for the benefits!

April 3, 2014 at 9:35 AMIt’s just a goal I’ve set. I’ve never EVER done a diet of any type, or restricted certain food groups or anything. I’m pretty sure that if/when I see benefits and results, I’ll be happy to keep it up. Maybe more along a 80/20 plan, not full throttle like I am at least for now. 🙂

Also? We still use dairy. Heaven help you if you cut me off from cheese. It’s helped me lose 15 lbs without much exercise. Just sayin’.

April 3, 2014 at 2:14 PMI hear you! This break-up with cheese has been rough. Sidenote: I just checked out NomNom Paleo for the first time, and her most recent post was “My Most Popular Egg Recipe of All Time.” Great! We’re off to a great start, I think to myself. A few paragraphs in, I was horrified. What have I gotten myself into? These people are PSYCHOS! Then I had to get off the computer and pick up my daughter from school. Still disturbed, I went back a while later and finished reading and was so “relieved” to figure it all out. Not fair on April 3rd!

April 4, 2014 at 10:43 AMThere’s a ton of that in paleo- “you want me to cook with WHAT??!?” Which leads to “oh! That was tasty… Hum.” :-). Have fun!
