If you were here earlier today, you saw the PANYL makeover of my son’s dresser, which was part of his whole room makeover, which I’m sharing now! It’s not really accurate to call this a ‘makeover,’ because this room didn’t even exist before. Not really. It was just an open loft, which was a bit excessive in a house that already had plenty of living spaces: a formal dining room, a formal living room, and a large family room. And only three bedrooms! Who comes up with these floorplans, I swear. You can click here to see more about turning our loft into a bedroom.
So here we are mid-construction. I swear my house doesn’t always look like a war-zone like this. You can see the pony-walls being sheetrocked over. They overlooked a nice drop-off to the tile floor below and were easily scalable by curious children, which really limited the furniture placement, and gave me nightmares all the time. I was so glad to have them gone. And my son was happy to have his own room!
You can just see the closet on the left here. I wish I had better ‘before’ pictures, but did I tell you how my computer crashed and died a fiery death a few days ago? This is another friendly reminder to BACK UP YOUR STUFF!
(back in our pre-PANYL days)
If you are curious, the dresser, desk and train station picture came from IKEA.
The hanging light, desk light and metal side table cam from my sister-in-law Kalli, who hoards amazing vintage treasures and then has a huge sale every few months. She’s having one now! Check her out at @decordeals on Instagram for more details.
Artwork is a mix of Ross, Etsy, and the wooden arrow, world map, and curtains I made myself.
And you are probably wondering where that fabulous orange school locker came from. Well, I hope you were, because it is in fact fabulous, and it can be yours.
SchoolLockers.com provided this locker for my review and offered to give one away to a reader too!
If you’re looking for extra storage with an extra special touch, check them out. They have a HUGE selection, and offer a variety of colors to match any room or scheme.
And these are truly authentic heavy-duty lockers, built to withstand regular use and abuse. They’ll totally take you back to your childhood. You’ll probably have the urge to slip notes to your kids (or yourself) through the vents. Hey, you know what’s sad? Most schools have done away with lockers these days! Your kids might never know the joy of having a real-life locker to call their own.
But SchoolLockers.com won’t let that happen! They’ve got plenty of options from home lockers for kids like this one, not to mention industrial and athletic lockers for commercial/educational use too. I did have to assemble the locker, which wasn’t difficult, but definitely a two-person job. Consensus: both my son and I love it, and his friends all wanted one too!
Would you like to win a kid’s locker from SchoolLockers.com in your choice of color?
You bet you would!

In the next year or so we’ll need to do some redecorating, and this time we’ll let them do some picking . . . and I’m worried it will be hard to make it so we both like it!

August 24, 2013 at 9:10 PMVery cool makeover! That ‘metal side table’ is an old typewriter table…just in case any of you yungin’ was a-wonderin’ 🙂 I had two…just recently sold one. The other is used as a side table in our guest room. I took off the flip-down side (the other side was missing when we bought the table). The thing about these is they’re wonderfully small, and usually have wheels so they fit nearly anywhere. I bet your son loves his new room! Great job!

August 25, 2013 at 1:50 AMSigh….now why don’t the Australian blogs I follow have such great giveaway prizes like a gorgeous school locker like that? Oh well, at least I can drool at your terrific makeover on your son’s room. Btw, any chance you wanna hop on over and do over my 19 year old’s room, eh? I’ll provide a barbie, and a Foster’s for you! Or a sanga, or maybe even a Pav! (translation; yummy food!) Oh and btw btw; what the heck is a pony-wall? We call your sheet rock, plaster board here. I love the way we speak English but have no clue on some of our words!
