So, what are your big DIY plans for 2013? I wasn’t sure what my highest DIY priority was for our home this year, but then a few weeks before Christmas, my dad just happened to pop over and build our loft into a fourth bedroom over the course of a weekend. He’s handy (and surprising) like that.
I’d been begging him to come and close in our loft for years. We have plenty of living spaces here, but only three bedrooms. The loft was nothing more than a catchall for furniture that had no place else to go and piles of laundry waiting (and waiting) to be folded. Plus, I was always afraid that a crazed child might pole-vault themselves over the pony-wall and land in a mangled heap below someday.
If you follow me on Instagram (@betterafterlnz), then you may have seen this photo:
This is the point when dear ol’ dad hung up his toolbelt and headed back home. As you can see, he left a few things unfinished. I mean, there is only so much bedroom building you can pack into two days, right? That guy is the best. Thanks Dad, love you! So anyway, this is where we will be starting with our DIY goals for 2013.
These aren’t any regular old cordless tools, no. The RYOBI ONE+ system
features Lithium Ion batteries that are way more super awesome than traditional batteries. They produce a consistent charge
throughout the life of the battery, can be charged many more times than
other batteries, can be left on the charger with no damage, and last four times longer than traditional NiCad batteries, helping you get your job done without stopping to charge.
Plus, they are 45% lighter in weight, which allows the tools to be smaller yet more powerful.
The ONE+ battery is also compatible
with more than 50 RYOBI ONE+ products offered at The Home Depot.
To enter to win the RYOBI ONE+ Lithium-ion Combo Kit, simply submit a photo of one of your 2013 DIY plans to the RYOBI Nation.
RYOBI Nation is an
online destination for power tool and DIY enthusiasts to share photos of
their project successes, vote on their favorite projects for the
opportunity to win prizes and have access to special offers on Ryobi
power tools.
Head over there to share your pic, don’t forget to come back here and leave a comment to let me know that you did, and bam! You’re entered.
The deadline for the current contest is Jan 31st, so I’ll be announcing a winner at the end of January. Can’t wait to see your 2013 DIY plans!

January 21, 2013 at 8:08 PMHow sweet that your Dad could do this for you. My daughter in Calgary has what they call a “bonus” room on their landing. The only “bonus” is she can go crawl onto the couch in there to escape hubby’s snoring!

January 21, 2013 at 10:01 PMI’ve been subscribed for a short while, but look forward to your email. I’m a true before/after person, as I’m rebuilding my house BY myself after a fire a few years ago. I entered the contest because many of my tools are Ryobi. My Dh bailed on me after the fire, but thank goodness left all his tools. Rather have the tools! 🙂 Thank you for the interesting posts!

January 23, 2013 at 6:55 PMI entered my project! I am making a tufted headboard for my new king-size mattress. I’ve been procrastinating and haven’t finished it, so this is good motivation for me to finally get this completed and make my bedroom look better. It looks really weird with no headboard in there. I found a great tutorial online, and it has been a really easy project so far.

January 29, 2013 at 7:11 AMI entered our fossil walls project for the Ryobi contest. I’m so excited about using the fossil stencils from Cutting Edge! (And terrified since I’m using plaster. And sand. And short of replacing the drywall I have no idea how I would get this stuff off the wall if it doesn’t work the way I want). Gulp!!
