Ugly Lamp Contenders, Part 1

I’m so excited to show you the first group of Ugly Lamps! I’ve broken them down into three parts so you don’t become overwhelmed by all the ugliness at once and go blind or anything. We wouldn’t want that.
Please cast your vote for the entrant you think is the ugliest lamp you’ve ever laid eyes upon over there at the poll on the right-hand side of the blog.
The top two winners of each bracket will then go head-to-head in a final vote-off for the grand prize of one $70 gift certificate to CSNstores.com and the proud title of “Ugliest Lamp Ever!”

Ok, hold on to your hat. Here they come.

I just had the best idea! It’s a lamp, shaped like an ear of corn! Painted red! What DOESN’T make sense about that?!

from Jamie @ C.R.A.F.T.

Because you just never know when you’re going to need an extra palm tree plate.

Hey hon? I’m missing two queens from my Secrets of the Seventies Jumbo Chess Set. They’re huge? Orangy-speckled? You can’t miss them…

from Chelsea @ Chelsea Rae Bits

This lamp was the sole possession that great-great-grandma Eustice brought across the Atlantic Ocean. The shade didn’t fare to well on the journey, and neither did she. I don’t know why she couldn’t just ride in the boat like everybody else.

from Ann Marie @ TwiceLovely

Perhaps no one will notice the cross-eyed cowboy face emerging out of this lamp Mr. Potato Head style, if I just set a pretty shade crookedly on top like so…
from Babyreat

Yessiree, this here is a one of a kind find, a relic from the past, procured from the brothel, er estate of Ms. Coco McLicious local business owner here in Boulder City. Let’s start the bidding at five dollars. Do I hear five? Five? Four? Who will give me four? Three? Anybody?
from Paula

You are getting sleepy. Your eyelids are getting heavy. You are staring into a swirling vortex of gold and poorly painted flower-like object things. You realize that I am beautiful and artlike. You will display me prominently in your home. Hey wait! No! Not back in the basement on the shelf of things you despise but feel too guilty to get rid of!
Dammit.

Down Dog

So I received some excellent submissions in yesterday’s impromptu haiku contest. You guys are so creative! Winner of the as-yet-to-be-decided prize will be announced soon.
But first, feast your eyes upon this coffee table turned upside down! No, Lacey literally turned this old coffee table upside down. And made it into a dog bed! That is clever with a capital C. Which sounds better said than typed, because then you’re like, well why didn’t you capitalize it? And I’m like, uh, I don’t know.
Check it out on Lacey’s blog Southern Lace. Thanks Lacey!

Ready, Settee, Go!

Here are two, count em, two fabulous settee redos for your viewing pleasure. Both were in good shape but sporting some pretty prehistoric fabric.
Stephanie from Moxie Maley bid adieu to that beastly blush velvet and recovered the first settee with a whimsical flower graphic print.

Mother-Daughter team Patricia and Andrea scour thrift stores and flea markets looking for their next treasure to rescue. They contrasted the delicate woodwork of this settee with two bold prints from Amy Butler. Check out their blog Fiber and Fire for more!

Ode to Paint

I just spent the last half hour trying to write a poem about white paint, and how dearly I love it. I will spare you, but please know that I used the words ain’t, complaint and saint. How about a simple haiku instead:
Freed from cheesy oak,

builder grade cabs go bye-bye,

magic in a can.
I think we should all write a haiku! Leave your own haiku in the comments, and my favorite one will win a prize! I’m serious! I don’t know what the prize is yet, but there will be one, I promise.
Check out this kitchen on Jessica’s blog Running with Scissors, where she gives the full run-down on how to paint your cabinets.

Bummin’

Erin discovered this diamond in the rough, or actually, dresser on the curb (for fuh-ree!) on trash day. Someone who was too lazy to try and repair the water damage and craptacular paint color tossed this solid wood, dove-tail construction piece to the curb. They did, I note, try to polish that one knob, so I guess they aren’t total bums.
Erin (NOT a bum, even though she will dig through the neighbors trash) took it home, fixed up the water damaged sides with some beadboard, gave it a fresh coat of paint (mistint, great find!) and has a beautiful new dresser to show for it. More pics on her blog Decor Allure. Thanks Erin!

Lindsey’s Laundry

Hmmm, I wonder why Lindsey wanted to redo her laundry room? Can’t see a single thing wrong with it. Nope, definitely no giant design flaw here.
Oh, except for the dryer was three feet away and adjacent to the washer, effectively blocking half the storage space in the room, while not even having the decency to open on the side closest to the washer, resulting in Lindsey performing an awkward wet laundry dance every time she had to maneuver clothes in there. Except for that.
Check out more on her blog Junk Style and bump your fist to your chest twice in hearty appreciation of the new laundry room that she probably weeps tears of gratitude for everyday.
