Stereo to Sew

If your name is Wynn, then guess what? Today we will be gazing in adoration at your sweet little $5 stereo cabinet makeover! The before was pretty sad. Even the cats were like, “There’s got to be something attractive about this thing somewhere. Nope, it’s not under here.” Even Wynn was a little stumped when it came to making over those perforated doors. Then she found some pretty cherry blossom paper and decided to just sew it on! Yeah, I don’t know how she did that either!

Oblongs on the Blog

This dining set was in great condition, but you know what? So is that denim jacket you bedazzled in high school. Same principle applies here. You wouldn’t wear outdated clothes just because they still fit, so why adorn your rooms in the same manner? If it doesn’t suit who you are today, it doesn’t deserve space in your home!

And actually, this table was in worse shape than the picture reveals. Lots of water stains and damage and gunk. Which is probably why Meg from Meg and Mum’s scored it for $60! Woah. She updated it with a slightly distressed white and a simple gray fabric that really shows of the shape of the chairs instead of hogging all the attention like before. Extra bonus: the little claw feet are more noticeable too!

Cozy Cruiser

Did you hit any yard sales or thrift stores over the weekend? Did you come across one of those Lil’ Tykes cars that you just knew your son/daughter/niece/nephew/husband would have had so much fun playing with? But it was all faded and grody and missing the stickers, so you passed?

Well, don’t make that mistake twice! Molly from Just a Little Creativity used the Krylon Fusion for Plastics spray paint and had this cozy coupe looking brand new in no time. It really is so gratifying to see how quickly a little paint can completely change anything. It just makes you feel good! Thanks Molly!

What wood you do?

Even the President of the Wood Paneling Fan Club, the most wood-loving-est wood-purist alive, fervent protector of all things woody, would look at this before staircase and be like “Holy frank n’ beans, that’s too much wood.”

And what’s worse, Janine tells us that this was all bare pine! No stain, no varnish, no varathane, no nothin’, except lots of hydrogen peroxide and tweezers, I presume. Looks so much better now! Thanks for sharing Janine!

B&W Q&A

Q: What’s black and white and headed in your direction?

A: These makeovers!

It’s a black and white bonanza today, starting with Kim from All of the Fish in the Sea. She turned around this rundown and dated dresser from a grubby grandma to a Greek goddess! All it took was some paint, new handles and a little moulding from the craft store!

But Kim didn’t stop there, oh no she di-in’t. Not one to shy away from pattern, color and contrast, she opted for a dizzying diamond design on the top of this sweet little desk. I love the delicate brass knobs too! See more right HERE.

Kayla from A Jump up from Junk had nothing to lose when she took on these old office chairs, other than the whole eight dollars she paid for them. Money well spent, because they look great now! I mean, I was kind of digging the former half naugahyde, half industrial grade fabric combo in clashing shades of maroon, but I suppose I will live.

Angela proves once again that cheapo laminate furniture needs not look like cheapo laminate furniture. She paitently sanded, primed, and painted, often waiting a day between coats. Then she added sparkle with leftover wallpaper. Even though you could still easily punch a hole through this, you certainly wouldn’t want to try! So pretty! And finally, a simple black and white update of this cramped and outdated little kitchen from Maureen. See how just removing that little cabinet-joiner above the window made such a difference? And probably no one was sad to see the cheese mural behind the stove go, either.

Bath-roomy

This bathroom was somewhat cramped, wouldn’t you say? I’ve seen more spacious set-ups on airplanes. The door nearly touches the toilet, which is touching the sink which is touching the shower, and the mirror looks like it’s squeezing itself into place too. Better After reader Lynn wasn’t standing for that. She updated it in a major way, with lots of glass, chrome accents, and sleek tiles. The toilet looks like it came from the future! Very streamlined and open, but with a playful pink floor! Great job. Thanks for sharing Lynn!
