Can you guess what direction these redos are taking today?  If you get off course, I might give you a few pointers, but you might have to needle them out of me.   Or, since that’s all puns I can come up with, you could just look with your eyes and plainly see that they each feature compass art!
First one from Korri at Red Hen Home, who had been itching to compass-ize something and found the perfect place to paint one: a circular coffee table!

But you don’t need a perfect circle to make a compass makeover. (Even if you DO need a compass to make a perfect circle.  Just not this kind of compass.  The other kind.  The one that makes for a less attractive graphic on furniture and also a semi-scary weapon in middle school.)  So no, you don’t need a perfect circle, because Janet from The Empty Nest compassed up the front of this dresser and it looks terrific!  Did you notice the knobs too?  Great work ladies!

Tuft Love

I don’t think I could have lived comfortably with this sofa bench in my home, because A) it doesn’t look comfortable at all, and B) it is totally staring at me. Staring me down with unblinking pillow eyes, like it might come to life when I least expect it.
Luckily Sarah came along and softened its edges with new upholstery (she retufted it herself!) and a sweet embroidered back cushion (from a Land of Nod twin sheet!), along with soft blue paint and an applique on the frame.  Now I kind of wish it would come to life because it would probably offer me tea and cake.  So cute.  Thanks Sarah!  See more on her blog Macayla’s Room.

Clocking In

I LOVE this idea!  Better After reader Susan needed a big clock to fill a big space, but she had a small budget. Good thing she has a big brain!  Because she figured this circular piece, which used to be the mirror of an old vanity set, would work perfectly instead.  She hand painted the clock face, attached a clock kit from Hobby Lobby and before you know it, had an enormous clock on her hands!  Ha ha, get it?  Hands?!   Eh, never mind.
Great job Susan!

Sweet Sweet Fantasy

Don’t feel bad if you are overwhelmed with jealousy when you see Sandra’s incredible closet transformation, because we all are.  Even if Mariah Carey was standing here peeking over my shoulder at these pictures, she’d be like, “Dang girl, I need that closet.  Someone better get me that closet.   I’ll have my people call your people.  Rainbows.  Sparkles.  Ponies.”  I’m not sure that’s how Mariah actually talks.  But she DOES knows a fantastic closet when she sees one.

Cuisiniers Bébé

Better After reader Hope was happy with this play kitchen she found for next-to-nothing at a yard sale, but not so happy with the pastel pinks, yellows and blues. Moms have to live with these things too, you know.  (My kids have a play kitchen, and I keep it in a closet!) 
 
So she decided to make the palette a little more digestible by going with ‘stainless’ chic instead.  Even the handles and faucet got upgraded to sleek silver!  Too bad the grocery list didn’t stick around, it would have been hilarious to change it to things like ‘frommage‘ and ‘Evian‘ and … well, that’s about all the fancy stuff I can think of.  But you get it.

Anne Anews

Better After reader Anne sent me these pictures with a warning: they contain a lot of wood paneling.  She knows me well.  My stomach is doing the herky-jerky just looking at all that knotty wood.  I’m pretty sure even people who don’t suffer from a bizarre wood-phobia would feel uncomfortable in there, but boy howdy, not now!  She painted right over those panels and ripped down the ceiling tiles (only to reveal a wallpapered ceiling! ugh!) and now it looks brand new and 1000% non-creepy.  I love how she made that tiny window looks so big with strategic curtain placement too.  Thanks Anne!
