The Bakery Maker

I’ve seen so many kid kitchens pass through this ol’ blog.  In fact, one of the VERY first posts I ever wrote was about a kid kitchen made from a great big entertainment center. (That was five years ago holy smokes!) And they just keep getting better and better.

This play bakery from Sarah at My Simple Obsession is just absolutely amazing. Cuter than a box of babies.  I love it so much now I want one for myself. And I also want donuts! Well done Sarah.

Show Me The Ropes

There’s probably a lot of reasons NOT to do home improvement projects after hitting the bar, but here’s one for the pro column: this amazing rope and wood accent wall was inspired by a similar wall treatment in Karah found in the bar area of a local restaurant!

She decided to recreate it in her guest bedroom, which, as you can see, kind of looked like a dive bar itself. Just needs a disco light and a jukebox full of Fleetwood Mac and she’s in business.  She knocked out the drop-ceiling and tore out the closet, then used the reclaimed wood to complete this stunning wall.  If I’m not mistaken, I believe the rope wall is now where the closet used to be.

See more from Karah on her ever-so-appropriately named blog, The Space Between.

Regency Emergence

If you’re one of those people that can’t stand to see furniture painted, you should probably step away right now.  Go have a bowl of cereal.  Take a short walk. Do a cross-word puzzle.  Because (spoiler alert) that’s what is about to happen to this hutch. So don’t say I didn’t warn you!

If you are one of those people who thinks that painting perfectly good furniture is A-OK, then read on! Furniture’s purpose is to work for us, not the other way around, that’s what I think. And this hutch’s overly fancy finish wasn’t working for Sarah.  She pictured more of a Hollywood Regency style: a bright color that would show off its Asian flair and glamorous mirrored backside. Mission accomplished!

Sneaky fact: she took out the glass in the doors to make for better pictures!  Genius.  Check it out at Funcycled.

Vision Statement

I like how this before toilet’s lid doesn’t quite fit right.  It makes it look totally self-conscious. It would be shuffling it’s feet and staring at the floor if it could right now.  Because even the toilet knows that this bathroom was a big ball of fug.

This was what Roeshel started with in her old farmhouse, but she had a vision of love. And it was all that she thought it could be. Wait, that’s Mariah Carey.  Roeshel’s vision started with a total gut job and ended in blissful bathroom heaven. Such a bright and dreamy expanse of gorgeousness.  Ahhhh love it!

Regretfully Not Yours,

I’ve always been into furniture makeovers.  Like, since forever.  Since I was a little girl and made myself a nightstand out of a milk-crate and a pillowcase.  Since the time I asked my second-grade teacher if we could rearrange the furniture in the classroom.  (Her desk formations weren’t doing it for my feng shui).

Even before I knew what ‘good bones’ and ‘clean lines’ were, I remember looking at this nearly identical chair in my great-grandma’s house and thinking there was something special about it. Hers was a pea-green color and smelled like … well, like a great-grandma’s house, but I always loved it.  After she died, I kept the chair and took it with me to college.  And kept it hidden under a blanket, unfortunately. I still loved it, but that color was really tragic.  If I had had the money back then, I would have recovered it with a white vinyl and made it look super modern. *wistful sigh of regret*

I don’t have it anymore, but I wish I did.  I’ll live vicariously through Kristine’s chair makeover instead. It turned out so good!  The only thing that would make it better would be two of them! In my house! See it on her blog Teeny Ideas.

Monica Flaunts It

Hey howdy hey!  I’m back!  Did you miss me?  (Did you notice I was gone?)  I’ve spent the last week moving from our rental into our new house just down the street. Moving is the opposite of fun.  I’d rather go to the dentist. In a prison. In a third-world country. But phew, we are here now! And we finally have the internet!  We still have a loong way to go to get things in order, but when I do, I’m planning to share a little home tour with you.

But not yet!  Because right now my bedroom looks exactly like Monica’s before bedroom.  Actually, mine looks worse.  So let’s enjoy her beautiful bedroom makeover instead, while I try to forget that mine is buried somewhere under piles of moving detritus. Love those stripes and the large-and-in-charge headboard. Great way to make use of all that wall space.
