Do you despair because your home has basic builder-grade cabinetry and you wish for something more? More custom? More colorful?
Well, do you have two hands and ten fingers? Do you have access to a few things like paint and hammers nails? If so, the world is your oyster!
If not, the world is still your oyster, just a little harder to crack. Sorry about you not having all ten fingers. My grandpa lost a finger once when he was down on the ground picking potatoes and someone came along digging up the potatoes with a shovel, and shoveled hard into the ground and sliced it right off.
Sorry for that tragic and unappetizing story first thing in the morning, but that is why I always warn people TO BE CAREFUL WHEN SHOVELING!!! Never let the bottom of a shovel and your hands share the same space. Again, sorry for telling you that gross story, but if I can save even one finger … it’s worth it.
OK. So take your builder-grade cabinet and as many fingers as you’ve got, and get your little hands to work! Check out what Debbie did to this worn out and basic bathroom vanity:
A little paint, some trim, and framing out the base substantially made a huge difference. Here’s how it looks in her bathroom:
It’s anything BUT basic! Fabulous job Debbie!

September 28, 2015 at 9:00 AMAbsolutely awesome! The cabinet, not the finger story xD
I can imagine, though, buying a cabinet with that kind of look would cost a TON more than the basic cabinet that it started out as!

September 28, 2015 at 2:43 PMSo true! I really want to teach myself how to do trim and mouldings. I’m not afraid of the power tools, I’m afraid of all the math it requires!

September 28, 2015 at 11:07 AMWhile I often swoon over the makeovers on your blog, what really keeps me coming back is your writing. Not many people could make a good story over a missing finger and a potato, but to do that AND make it appropriate for a home decor blog is amazing.

September 28, 2015 at 6:36 PMDiddly dee potato….(said in an Irish accent coz they love potatoes….allegedly….) That is one sure cutie cupboard now! I could point the finger at someone I know’s builder grade cupboard but then I would have to ask your Granpa for it in the first place.
