My grandpa always used to say “Do something new to your house once a year.” Repaint, replace, repair, update, upkeep, whatever it needs. That’s probably why his home and yard were both immaculate well into his eighties.
When Better After reader Elizabeth got married, she moved into her husband’s home and inherited quite the opposite. It was the home he had grown up in, and it hadn’t been updated once in 30 years! This is exactly how you end up with an avocado sink in 2015. Heed Grandpa’s advice, my friends. Heed it.
Fortunately, she was able to do it all at once, and replaced everything from top to bottom. I love the marble herringbone backsplash, and look! Cabinets that aren’t white! (I do love white cabinets, but it’s always nice to see something different for a change). Fabulous job Elizabeth!

April 8, 2015 at 10:36 AMOh my goodness – I have those exact same countertops right now, only with a harvest gold sink from the 70’s (and pretty much those same cabinets)… LOVE the after! Did they do all new cabinets, or just new doors?

April 8, 2015 at 4:47 PMI love the 70s cause that was my decade!! And that sink would have stayed. I would also keep a pink tiled bathroom if I bought a house that had one.
Did you ever see the MTV show, The 70s House? Those youngsters did know what hit em. haha!

April 8, 2015 at 10:51 PMMy brother-in-law just bought a house with an original pink bathroom, and it’s fantastic! Pink hexagon tile and this vintage wallpaper too. I tried getting pictures of it when I visited last month, pretty sure he thought I was nuts.

April 9, 2015 at 4:44 AMYes, I am in agreement, the sink! Definitely would have been a keeper. I hope they didn’t throw it out, but instead, donated it to a reclaim store, or sold it, or gave it away. Would be a shame to toss it.

April 9, 2015 at 6:46 AMI can’t believe that is the same kitchen!!! Beautiful!!! I grew up in a home with green bathroom sinks!!! They are still green to this day in my mom’s house. The toilet is even green! If I were remodeling it, they would have come out. But, if they would have been pink…..!!!
