My kids don’t understand why I keep the toaster in a cabinet, even though we use it all the time. Or why I keep the bathroom trash can hidden inside a cabinet under the sink. Ugh, how inconvenient! Well, I’m sorry family. I’d rather be inconvenienced than have to look at ugly things, that’s all there is to it.
But Liz at Smart Girls DIY gets me. We are cut from the same cloth. Because I would say it’s somewhat inconvenient to spend countless hours of your time digging post holes, pouring concrete, laying pavers, and constructing a lattice wall for not other reason that to disguise your trashcans and AC unit. But I would also say it’s totally WORTH IT!

February 24, 2014 at 3:51 PMThat’s beautiful! Gives me some ideas… I also keep my toaster in a cupboard and have been contemplating moving the bathroom trash can under the sink. Great minds… 🙂

February 24, 2014 at 5:43 PMThanks guys! And thanks for the feature Lindsey!! I love this area now. BTW my toaster is lucky it gets to hang out with the blender in the “appliance garage.” The bread maker lives in the basement storage area. Lol

February 24, 2014 at 6:58 PMNo only has she hidden the tasteless trash, she’s added curb appeal and value to her home. Beautiful – well done!

February 24, 2014 at 7:46 PMWow! That’s a super fancy hideout for a garbage can and ac unit. Really pretty and I love it!
When I was reading the intro. I kept seeing a garbage can painted camo hiding out under cover waiting to hit a deer with a trash bag. 😀

February 25, 2014 at 6:27 AMThis is so well done! I love that access to the ac unit, trash cans and everything else is still very easy, but now well hidden.

February 25, 2014 at 6:44 AMHAHA! I hear ya about hiding appliances! My husband and I battled over hiding the oh-so-gross George Forman grill for about 8 months. I finally won – as if it would have gone any other way!
Love the before & after!

February 25, 2014 at 7:13 AMI love this!! We just had to install 2 new HVAC units that are each about the size of a smart car, and I’ve been looking for attractive ways to hide them! 🙂

February 25, 2014 at 7:47 PMLindsey, I hear you! It’s like sitting in the lounge room with the toilet door open and seeing the dunny! Ugh! How gross! I HATE seeing utilities of any kind out. Look out my back window and see the clothes line? Nuh uh! Ripped that baby out and plonked it elsewhere. Who needs to see old earwax on cotton tips in the bathroom bin? Grossarola! So Liz, you got it right! No visual pollution!

February 28, 2014 at 3:54 PMTruly a fantastic camo job with the trash cans, but I mainly wanted to say how much I agree with you about looking at ugly things. One of my pet peeves is branded product containers sitting out on shelves and countertops where they are visible. I cry a little every time I step into our bathroom for this very reason.

May 9, 2019 at 5:13 AMSimply amazing! You just gave me a very smart idea. My trash bags fill up so fast and the trash drop off point quite some distance from the house. Usually, I prefer to take it at least once a week so the whole week’s trash stays in my backyard till saturday. It’s well hidden from our visitors back there but still, I don’t like the sight. I could really use this DIY tip!
Thank you so much!

August 10, 2019 at 6:33 AMThis looks like a great book! I have a couple of containers on my counter that could become storage trays for small “stuff” that needs a home. I like the inspiration, but I also need concrete guidance. This looks like just the thing.
