Happy Room, Happy People

If you’ve been looking for a meeting place for your Super Sad People Who Are Sad Club, I’ve got the spot for you. This before dining room.  I don’t think happiness could exist in such an overwhelming realm of burgundy and brown.

But all that changed once Emily got on the scene.  Now it’s electric, bright, and happpppyyyyy! So tell your club to keep looking.  You’ve joined a new one.  Meetings start at eight in Emily’s dining room; I hear there’s pie.

See all the details at I Dream of Style.

An Ode

Gray, white, and gold.

Will this trend ever get old?

And lose its hold?

Will it flame out, leaving us in the cold?

As unwanted as a sandwich full of mold?

Or a crook recently paroled?

Or a sneeze uncontrolled?

I say NO, if I could be so bold.

From Krista at Goodwill Glam.

Best Case Scenario

Do you have a Halloween costume yet?  It’s not too late. I saw a cute idea the other day that would be super easy to pull together with a few thrift-store items: flight attendant! All you need is a dark blazer, a scarf, and why not accessorize with a rolling suitcase, or even better, a vintage travel case!

These are always plentiful at the thrift-stores around here, and give me good feels because they remind me of my grandma who never left home without one.

Rebecca at Ivy & Co.  recently made over a few, and they turned out adorable. Stock yours with mini pretzels and tiny sodas, and you’ll be the hit of the Halloween party!

So cute.  She did a fabulous job of choosing fabrics that complemented each case.

Get your tiles rotated.

This bathroom had a bad case of the blahs, and also featured one of my most OCD pet peeves of all time.  Can you spot it? It’s the tile floor. Do you see in the picture on the right how every tile is exactly the same? When you install tiles like that, you are supposed to rotate them, so that the pattern doesn’t repeat itself.  There isn’t supposed to be a pattern! It looks much more natural when they are rotated. It makes me want to punch myself in the eyeballs whenever I see it, but I admit I do have some issues.

But anyway.  Sabrina solved that problem with a beautiful new marble floor and scene stealing wall treatment.  Simple yet stunning.

Everything else got a coat of paint, including the tub and shower tiles. I love the vanity update, it looks like a minty gray which doesn’t sound like a real color, but according to Pinterest, it is.

Also digging the floating frame around the mirror.  See more details from the talented Sabrina at Pink Little Notebook!

Farm House Fresh

Man, it’s stories like this one from Better After reader Bethany that make me wish I had bought a 136-year-old fixer-upper farm house. Too bad those don’t exist where I live.  The closest I could come is buying  a 25-year-old faller-downer meth house, which is nowhere near as charming.  No thankies.

But she scored big with this beautiful home built in 1878, which switched hands a few times before it ended up being purchased by her grandparents in 1972.  Eventually, it came into Bethany’s possession and she has been bringing it back to life ever since.

Luckily it had been lovingly cared for and only needed a few cosmetic updates, including new lighting and uncovering those original fir floors.  136-year-old floors! Wow, what a treasure.  Bethany, start a blog already, we need to see more!

Black Halloween Cat Makeover

I’ve got some spooky Halloween decor for you today, (if you follow me on instagram, you’ve already had a sneak peek!) The best part is you can whip up in ten minutes or less, assuming you have a super ugly cat sculpture lying around the house. And who doesn’t, am I right?

If you are fresh out of ugly cat sculptures, I’ll wait while you head down to your local thrift store where you are sure to find something similar.

*twiddling thumbs*

You’re back! Great! Let’s get started.

Step one: Spray paint that sad little thing black.

Paint the eyeballs if you want it to look especially creepy. Boom. You are done.

I originally painted my cat’s eyes white, but everyone in the household was too creeped out by its soul-sucking blank stare and preferred the red.

What do you think? Red or white? Or maybe you’d do something else entirely.  I’d love to see your pics if you do, especially if you can’t find any cats and have to use like, ceramic geese or something. Oh man, Halloween geese! That should be a thing.

Happy Saturday!
