Crafty

Are you one of the many people (like myself) who doesn’t have a “craft room?” Well, don’t feel sorry for yourself! All you need is a teeny bit of space and some creative storage, and looky here: a crafty craftin’ closet!
Jacinda had been trying to work out of this itty-bitty space, but she just wasn’t feeling it. So she upgraded her table and added some shelves and now I’d say it’s just about perfect! Love the pops of color too. Check it out on her blog The Happy Little Homemaker. Thanks Jacinda!

Man Cave to Sweet Nursery

I see this before picture and I just think, “man cave.” Workspace stuffed in the closet, computer monitors every which way, the forlorn clock serving as the only piece of decor.
The after is much more inspiring. Michell from Thoughts and Ideas says “When I decided to paint this room, I was only hoping that someday it would be my son’s room. After months of trying I still wasn’t even pregnant. Well, I think there is power in suggestion … not long after I started this room I was pregnant with our son!”
Wow! Paint really IS magic! And lucky for her she decided on blue! I love love the stripes under the chair rail, and check out her blog to see how she put the “Sweet Dreams” stencil on the wall for cheap!

See Cece’s Dresser

There’s always a bit of controversy about painting over wood. People do it all the time but some people think it’s blasphemy! I say, do whatever the heck you want with your furniture. But still, I also think it is so nice to see some natural wood finish once in a while, like this vintage Thomasville dresser from Cece at One Handy Chick.

She went to a lot of work to pull this off and details every step in a handy tutorial on her blog. She says, “Bringing a piece of furniture back to life again was therapeutic for me. Kinda like going through the divorce left me feeling broken and dilapidated. Then, as God promised, He is bringing me back to life again!”

 Love that. Thanks Cece!

Ikea Dresser

Hello again! Just taking a trip through the Better After archives today! This was one of my very favorite projects from last year. I’ve FINALLY decided to remedy my pathetic nightstand situation, and currently have these very dressers sitting in my garage, waiting to be painted!

From August, 2009 I present: ikea dresser!

File this under TO DO STAT: Would you believe the before and after are even the same dresser? I love this one. It’s just gorgeous, and I don’t throw that word around a lot.
I’ve been on the hunt for new nightstands. Sadly, I am still using a $5 round “nightstand” with the three rickety dowel legs, boringly covered with a beige tablecloth that I’ve had for at least 8 years.
Check out Eric’s website at DMD for more pictures and full instructions. Thanks Eric!

High Fashion Headboard

Today I thought I’d step back in time and show you a couple of my favorite projects from Better After’s earlier days, just for fun, (and because I seriously need to catch up behind the scenes! Don’t think I’m ignoring you if you’ve submitted something and I haven’t emailed back yet, I’m a-working on it!).
Also, I’m headed to the Rose Bowl flea market this weekend! WHOOO! Anyone else going to be there? It would be so fun to bump into you!
And now, from August, 2009, I present: High Fashion Headboard.
Love this one! Today’s first before and after comes courtesy of the talented Amy, who turned this terrifying headboard into the chic centerpiece of a bedroom redo. It really does look like something you’d pay a ton of money for! I especially love the high gloss, black lacquer look and how it pops against that great orange wall.
