Great Look for Less

Jill is a girl who puts style high on her priority list. So even though a major kitchen overhaul wasn’t in the budget, she was determined to make a chic space out of this awkward and style-free kitchen.
So she ripped out the old cabinets and went with sleek open shelving, updated the paint and decor, and had had herself a whole new look for $150! (What is the secret to those floating shelves? Every time I’ve tried to put some up, they never seem to stay exactly level, and all my stuff rolls off the front…arg.)

She says the next phase is updating the existing cabinets, but until then, she could also give this look a try: HERE
Check out her great blog, The Good Life for Less, and be prepared to spend a lot of time over there! Thanks Jill!

Sunshine Day

When you hear the words “sun room” you probably envision a warm, light-filled, relaxing space. Unfortunately, Miss Cape Cod had the exact opposite on her hands. Even though this room was attached to the outside of the house, it still managed to look as bleak as a dungeon basement.
But with a lot of work, (my favorite, the new ceiling with sunlight!) she managed to turn this room around, and it looks amazing! Check out her blog The Cape on the Corner for more!

Charge!

Here’s a smart idea from One Thrifty Chick: an old country towel rack transformed into a cell phone/ipod/whathaveyou charging station! All she did was flip it over, removed the towel bar and painted it black. I love when people see repurpose potential in things that normally get overlooked. Especially ugly things. Looks fantastic, thanks Jen!

Sandpaper and Poly

Rebekah wanted a sewing cabinet that meant business. Drawers, extra space, the whole shebang. What she found was this neglected hunk-o-junk that screamed “firewood” to me.
But she knew there was life in there, and coaxed it out with lots of sanding and staining and wiping and more sanding and more wiping and a few coats of poly. Her love paid off, because this $10 cabinet looks like a million bucks!

Wine and Chocolate

I’m not in love with red walls, it’s no secret. But if you like red walls, then great. Have red walls. Have them all over the place. But red walls in a bedroom? Well, now you’ve gone too far.
Better After reader Kate pulled this bedroom back from the brink of design despair when she nixed the burgundy and opted for a deep cocoa. Love the black accents too, as well as the new window treatments, which were… more than a small step up from the old one. Although I can’t blame her for the cardboard, who would build a bedroom with a half window? How annoying that must be when the sun comes up!
 Looks great, thanks Kate!

It don’t matter if it’s…

I heart black and white. In fact, if you took a look in my closet, you would see that that’s just about all I own. And lots of gray. I was out shopping with a friend the other day and pulled a gray t-shirt off the rack and said “Oooh, I like this!” and she said “WOW! I’m so surprised you would like that GRAY T-SHIRT!” And I laughed because I was wearing a gray t-shirt, and had just bought a gray t-shirt the day before. At least I know what I like, right?
Anyway, what was I even talking about? Black and white. Classic, but can also be whimsical and fun! Like me! Right? … Right? Eh…
 Anyway…
Rachael aka Mrs. Adventure proves it here with her fun nightstands: (Don’t you love the aqua insides?)
