I’m not in love with red walls, it’s no secret. But if you like red walls, then great. Have red walls. Have them all over the place. But red walls in a bedroom? Well, now you’ve gone too far.
Better After reader Kate pulled this bedroom back from the brink of design despair when she nixed the burgundy and opted for a deep cocoa. Love the black accents too, as well as the new window treatments, which were… more than a small step up from the old one. Although I can’t blame her for the cardboard, who would build a bedroom with a half window? How annoying that must be when the sun comes up!
Looks great, thanks Kate!

April 21, 2010 at 2:56 PMWhat was it what that red wall craze of the early 2000’s? I never jumped on the red wall wagon and now I’m glad, because painting over red takes a LOT of primer. Or so I hear from my red walled friends.
Love the new brown walls on this one.

April 21, 2010 at 10:12 PMMy poor daughter has one of those half windows in her bedroom. She hates it. I’ve priced putting a wood shutter up there, but its a lot of $$$ I don’t want to spend.
So she crammed a bunch of pillows up there and now she can sleep in.
Not pretty, but it does the job.
This room makeover is great. I’m glad to see the red walls go too.

April 22, 2010 at 12:10 AMHi there! Kate here! And this is my beautiful bedroom! I must say that I did have some help from a friend of mine starting her own decorating business, but everything was done by my husband and I! All the furniture was bought for a total of about $200 bucks off of Kijiji, which I painted all black to match! Needless to say, it is a HUGE improvement from what was there before! The red walls were NOT my idea – we moved into that disaster!! It didn’t take any primer to cover though – just two good coats of Benjamin Moore paint. As for the half window, we also did price out having it covered with a shutter like thing – which was going to cost BIG bucks. So, I too stuff pillows up there when I’m working nights and need to sleep during the day!! A word of advice – never put one of these stupid windows in your house ANYWHERE!!!
