The Frill is Gone

I think it’s kind of funny that Emily’s blog is called Frilly Details, because she gave this bathroom a hearty defrilling. Maybe it’s the old lady in me, but I kind of liked the wallpaper. But I agree, it was too much —much too much for this tiny space. Check her blog for more pics of the details, like the crown moulding and textured walls. Thanks Emily!

Summer Special!

Been thinking about sponsoring Better After? Well, there’s never been a better time, because starting today, I’m running a Summer Special! Get June and July for 50% off! That’s right, sponsorship rates have been reduced to $25 per month for the next two months, or buy-one get-one free, however you want to look at it. Not required to purchase both months! Email me today for more info: betterafter@live.com
Here’s what Amber from Timeless Treasures had to say: “It has been such a pleasure sponsoring Lindsey at Better After! Since advertising on Better After I have totaled 437 hits to my Etsy shop that I otherwise wouldn’t have. Lindsey makes sure to have new posts available to her readers multiple times during the week (unlike the bloggers that tend to “forget” therefore resulting in less hits to your shop), which helps contribute to my good numbers. I assure you that if you choose to sponsor Better After, it will not disappoint!”
And to share the love, let me tell you a little bit about my experience working with Amber. I wanted to order something extra special for my mom for Mother’s Day, so I knew Timeless Treasures was just the ticket. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted, but I browsed her shop and asked if I could combine a medallion and a locket. She was more than happy to try out my ideas and offered helpful suggestions along the way.
In the end, after much discussion, we came to this beautiful conclusion: a large medallion engraved with her children’s names, framing a smaller locket engraved with her 5 grandchildren’s initials. Inside the locket were two crystals, representing the birthstones of my mom and dad. On the outside, I asked Amber to engrave Mi Vida, spanish for My Life, which is how my mom has always made me think what our family is to her.
It arrived super quick and packaged oh-so-cutely, and I dropped it in the mail to my mom. A few days later, I answer the phone and it was my my mom, sobbing. That’s never good. Having forgot about the package, my stomach dropped.
But after a few seconds I realized that it was HAPPY sobs! She had received the necklace and seemed to love it more than life itself. She declared it “so special” and “precious” and “the best Mother’s Day gift I have ever gotten!” (ha ha, suck it siblings!)
She thanked me profusely, hung up the phone, eager to go show all her friends at work. Success!

Diane’s Kitchen

For a while there, honey colored cabinetry was ALL THE RAGE. Or maybe it wasn’t, but that’s what all the builders across America seemed to think. Now the rage is painting those cabinets white. Will we someday look back on this as a crazy trend? I don’t think so. White is as classic as anything can be. It’s not like everyone is painting in harvest gold or avocado, right? So go ahead and roll up your sleeves, and tell your husband it’s a good investment!
This classic kitchen makeover comes from Diane at The Perfectly Imperfect Life. I love how she dropped down that extra high island counter, which could only be used as an eating surface when NBA players stopped by for a snack before. Now it’s built for regularly sized people and uses the space so much better. Thanks Diane!

Do you take your coffee … pink?

I love LeAnn’s blog, Vintage Sassy. She has the most colorful, unique style. Here she made over her coffee table in Watermelon Pink, by Krylon
I would love to add more vibrant color to my decor, which is more than a little heavy on the neutral side. It’s on the morbidly obesely neutral side.
But where does one begin? It seems like an all or nothing ordeal. You can’t just paint one table hot pink, now can you? Or can you? I don’t know, maybe someday I’ll get the guts to find out!

Little Foot (stools)

Candace told me she had some uggo ottomans on her hands, and she wasn’t joking. Now lest you think that I’m mocking some ancient Indian footstools, solemnly handed down from generation to generation, hear this: she scored these from a model home sale.
Took em’ home and prettied them up, and by gum, they look amazing! Check out her blog
Crafty Sisters to see them in action, they are actually much larger than they appear!

Three Fine Rooms

Yay for letting teenagers have freedom of expression in their room decor, I guess, but geez. My eyes are seriously BURNING. How did anyone ever sleep in here? I think I could manage to see that color with my eyes closed.
Well, this is what Jen from Our Fine House inherited from the previous owners when she bought her home. Luckily that lime green paint was sent packing, and soothing neutral moved in.
But that wasn’t all, she also had a robin’s egg blue guest room to contend with, along with a thankfully blank slate of a dining room. Great work Jen! See it all HERE, HERE and HERE.
