I Gots the Blues

Better After reader Valena sent over this blue desk redo, and I must say, I don’t think I will ever tire of the combination of blue and gold. It’s classic, like a Navy uniform or something. Note: I have never actually seen a real life Navy uniform up close and in the flesh, but I picture a lot of gold detailing and … um, navy. I suppose I could google it, but that would require more effort than I’m willing to put forth today.

But before you think that I don’t honor our fine men and women in uniform, let me also tell you of a time at Chick-fil-A, when I saw an old man wearing a war veteran’s hat, and I thanked him for his service to our country and then I started crying uncontrollably. I may have been pregnant and a wee bit hormonal, but I think he appreciated the gesture. Or called the cops.

Um, speaking of doing good deeds and stuff, if you are in the mood to be awesome, check THIS out. Angela is planning the ultimate before and after: she’s shaving her head!
That’s right, Angela here has pledged to shave her head this month in an effort to raise money for childhood cancer research through the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Is there a nicer soul walking the face of the earth? Please take a minute to check out her page HERE and help generate some cash for cancer research and good karma for yourself!

Red Rey

Well hello! Here is a dash of color for your November morning. Rey from Finding Rey had a solid old dresser on her hands, but that finish, yowza! It was that strange shiny beige-y look from the 70’s, when I guess strange and shiny was all the rage.

I love the new look and my favorite part is that she kept the knobs and just repainted them! Which … now that I that I type that, makes me realize that most everybody does that, but these just turned out really cute, ok? I think it’s the colors she used. Aqua and red, who can argue with that? Thanks Rey!

10 In decor

You’re cute, but you scare me.

The spooky before and afters continue in honor of Halloween! This project comes from Jonalynn from Turn Up the Rad. The after isn’t at all scary or Halloweenish, but hot dang, does that before not kind of creep you out a little? Sure the girl is a cutie pie and whatever, but I am always so disturbed to come across a picture still in its frame at the thriftstore. Especially pictures of kids. Especially pictures of this magnitude. Thing was huge, ya’ll.

Jonalynn figured the frame was the perfect size for a coffee table tray, so that’s what it became, and I am happy to report that the creepy picture isn’t lurking under the chevron design, but has since been removed.

Have you ever stumbled across a find like this? A photo album with hundreds of photos still inside? A jewelry box full of love notes? Once my friend Kristan bought what she thought was an unused notebook, but it turned out to be the half-used poetry journal of an angsty adolescent boy. Good times.

Its a Bitsy Spider

Wooooooooo! Ooooooooooooooh! (that is my scary typing voice, are you scared yet?) Halloween is upon us! I have gathered a couple of freaky and frightful Halloween redos for your viewing pleasure today!

This here used to be a plain jane side table, but Kammy from Kammy’s Korner spiffed it up with some spidery spookiness. Scary! Check back in later today for more Halloween horrors!

Fiery Fairy

Monica found this freebie desk on Craiglist in the nick of time. The owner was planning to use it as firewood if no one responded to the ad! Yipes!

She got her artsy hands on it and drew a fantastic fairy forest-scape instead. Fairies are much more fun than firewood, this is true. Get up close and personal with them on her blog Cheerio Diva. Thanks Monica!

Nine Footer

Ellen and her man pulled a Jim and Pam when they bought their home from her in-laws three years ago. With it came not a creepy clown picture superglued to the wall (if that makes no sense to you whatsoever, you probably don’t religiously watch/memorize The Office likes I do) but a 9-foot buffet!

Yes, NINE feet! Wow.

It was nice, but just not Ellen’s style. But how can you get rid of a 9-foot buffet? You can’t. So she switched it up a little with a two-toned paint job, which looks amazing and you can read more about it right HERE.
