Wash up with that?

Better After reader Tammy’s old kitchen was really nothing to write home about, unless you were writing home to complain. Is that a washing machine across from the fridge? I know that having washers and dryers in the kitchen is not such a crazy idea, especially overseas, but I have kids. I have seen what kind of disgustingness goes into the washer. I don’t want that shiz anywhere NEAR my food. I also wouldn’t want guests to drop by, and instead of cookies, I pull out a warm batch of my underwear.

But anyway. If there is a washer and dryer in there now, it’s safely behind that new wall, and everything else is simply stunning! Cabinets are the same, just painted. I especially love that table, get
this: Tammy and her husband built out of reclaimed wood from the floorboard of an old rail car! Cool!

In a Raj

Don’t freak out that Emily gave this classical French style sofa an Indian inspired makeover. Marie Antoinette is not spinning in her grave. Emily was inspired by the scene in A Little Princess when Sara’s little attic room has been transformed with Indian decor, and named this sofa “The Raj,” which refers to a time when India was under British colonial rule between 1858-1947. The British began sending Indian decor items back home.

Who knew we would be getting a history lesson along with a funky old couch redo? I feel smarter already. Check it out on her blog BluBabes Create.

Hungary for more?

Ok, so these old drawers on the left didn’t look like they had too much in common with the shelves on the right. Other than their general size. And proportions. And color. And usefulness as instruments of storage.

So, really it wasn’t THAT crazy of a stretch to put the two and two together, but it’s still more than my brain could have ever squirted out. My brain is still gazing at the background wall in the after picture, a puddle of drool slowly forming.

From Kata at Kicsi Haz, which if my Hungarian is up to speed means either “Karate House!” or “Small House.” But you know … either way.

Winner and a trashy makeover!

Congratulations to LITTLE MISS LITERARY, who was tapped by Random.org’s mystical wand-o-luckiness and is the new recipient of a $50 credit toward CoffeeandEndtables.com!

And now, in other news … literally…
Melisa from Toad In A Boat, who is not a boring girl, decided her trash can needn’t be boring either, and wrapped it in newsprint! (Actually, it’s not. It’s wrapped in pages of an old novel. But that makes segueing like, way harder). She also attached little scrabble tiles with liquid nails for an extra fun touch! If I had enough space and scrabble tiles, I would spell “classified” on my trashcan. What would you write on yours?

Ruh-Roh

Like, zoinks! This room was a Scooby Don’t!

I’m sure, at one point, somebody really enjoyed this profoundly purple palace. But their selection of Scooby sheets mixed in with the leopard print throw, neon green accents, stripes and feathers was a crime against eyeballs! They would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn’t for that meddling Michelle at Home Decor Budgetista! Jinkies!
