Glazy Days

I am having a crush on this chest by Janessa from Savvy Saver Secrets.  I love how the glaze really outlines the curves.  I’m a sucker for anything black and white, which reminds me … I’ve been thinking of replacing this sad metal leaf thing that has hung on my living room wall for like, hundreds of years and of doing a gallery wall instead.  I’m thinking about black and white photos, framed in white frames, but THEN I thought, “Hmmm, what if I painted the sides of the white frames black?”  So… think on that for me, friend.  Would that look cool or kinda dweeby?  Have you seen it done somewhere?  Am I making any sense?

Silhouette Giveaway! (now closed)

*** GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED ***

I know what you’re thinking.  “A giveaway in the middle of the week, two days after a previous giveaway?  What is this blog coming to?”  Well, hold on to your shorts, because this one has been in the works for a while, and IT IS SO FLIPPING EXCITING!

Yes, I get to give someone a Silhouette!   A brand spanking new SilhouetteSD machine, capable of cutting paper, fabric, and making your friends and neighbors purple with envy.  Holy smokes.

I received a Silhouette machine to review, and let me tell you, I was so excited, I literally hugged the box.  The Silhouette, for the four of you who’ve never heard of it, is a digital cutting tool that connects to your computer like a printer, only instead of printing, it cuts!  You can access all the fonts on your PC, plus thousands of great designs from the Silhouette Online Store.

There are so many projects the Silhouette is capable of, from cards, customizable apparel, home decor, scrapbooking, vinyl,  glass etching, even temporary tattoos!
Here is my boy Blake trying out the tattoo paper. (He is way more excited than he looks, even though I did put a tattoo on his lip.  He is “trying to look tough.”)

Here are some more examples of things you can do with a Silhouette:

The possibilities are truly endless, so much so that it boggles my mind and I end up staring slack-jawed at my Silhouette for long periods of time.  Did I mention YOU can enter to win one RIGHT NOW?!  Hoo boy!

Win It:
One lucky reader will win a Silhouette SD Machine
And it includes…
• Software for Windows XP/Vista
• Power cable, USB cable

{{Extra bonus: 2 packages of Temporary Tattoo paper!}}

That’s a $320 value.  I repeat: Holy smokes.

Get on the Floor

Better After reader Laura was tired of looking at her drab linoleum floor day after day.  So she decided to paint right over the top of it!  But slapping paint on a floor isn’t as easy as it sounds.  Like my dad always says, “Painting is 90% preparation.” So true!

I imagine Laura experienced much bending and kneeling and taping and scuttling around the floor on her shins, plus keeping everyone OUT OF THE KITCHEN! while it cured.  So Laura is probably still tired, but happily enjoying her pretty new floor in the meantime!

Framed and Hung

Arlene is helping her daughter renovate her recently purchased home and the look they are going for is “industrial cottage.”  So they took a bunch of old frames, painted them white and hung them on the wall in the dining room.

But wait!  Before you go thinking this is something you’ve seen before, what I didn’t tell you is WHERE they hung them on the wall.  Under the chair rail, like framed moulding!  If that’s not “industrial cottage,” I don’t know what is!  OK, I don’t actually know what “industrial cottage” is. But I dig it. I think it looks quirky and fabulous! Check out more on Arlene’s blog Little Altars.
