This fantastic bedroom makeover is brought to you by the letters D and H. And it possibly belongs to Debbie Harry. Or David Hasselhoff. Or Dustin Hoffman. Or Darryl Hannah. My money’s on Debbie, she’s the coolest of the bunch. Dustin doesn’t seem like the redecorating type, Darryl is probably getting arrested right now, and we all know David prefers to sleep on the floor while eating hamburgers. Or, it could actually belong to Hilary and her husband whose name I don’t know, but it probably starts with a D.

Hello Hello Buffet

Malena needed some storage in her kitchen and came up with a unique solution using this little set of cabinets. By fastening them together and adding some curvy legs, they now serve up hot and fresh fabulousness in the kitchen daily as a new buffet!

Have you ever heard of the Carter chair by Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams? I hadn’t, but it sounds like it must be cool. And expensive! And yes, it is both. It retails for $1700. But Sandra won the good karma lottery one day when she found two of these unique chairs on craigslist for … wait for it … $60! And then, living near a border town, she was able to cross into Mexico where she had them both recovered for a grand total of …wait again … $120! I think this calls for a Better After field-trip to Mexico, what say you?

Beauty 4 Ever

Someday, far from now, when our grandchildren are laboriously stripping layers of paint from the furniture they inherited from us, they will shake their heads and sigh and say, “Grandma, did you have to paint everything turquoise?”

Because trends will come and go, you see, but this (free!) dresser set makeover by Ellie is sure to stand the test of time. Hex on you!

When the only item of visual interest on your wall is a lonely little smoke detector, that should alert you that it’s time for a change. Holly knocked out this amazing hand-stenciled wall with the help of a friend and the Michael Jackson playlist she brought along. (Seriously, it helps. I’m listening to MJ right now! Shake it shake it baby, ooh girl!)

Anyway, she found her inspiration from a David Hicks wallpaper sample and recreated the same thing with a homemade stencil! So chic. Thanks Holly, for proving that homemade doesn’t have to look homemade!

Isn’t that amazing? I didn’t know I had such a thing for gold hexagons until today!

Oh, and check this out too! She had a lame light fixture outside her bedroom and DIY-ed up a glam solution with thin sheets of brass and a circle punching tool. Easy as 123! See it HERE.

2 In innovative idea

You Hoser!

Someone once said, “I love seeing transformations of thrift store treasures or overlooked items into beautiful and functional design and decor. I’m endlessly inspired by what people can conceive and create.” Who said that? Oh, it was me! See, it’s right over there on my sidebar!

And after all this time, it’s still true. I LOVE seeing the ideas that people come up with that would have never popped into my fuzzy brain. Here is one example, not a dramatically huge makeover, but a pretty ingenious idea nonetheless: an old candlestick repurposed into a hose hanger! From Heidi at The Red Dollar House. Way to use the ol’ noodle, Heidi!
