It’s a kiddie round-up! (I sang that in my head to the tune of The Final Countdown. You know. “It’s the final COUNTDOWN!!” That’s the only lyric I know, but the real star of the song is that rad synthesizer solo. I HIGHLY recommend that you check out the music video. It’s absolutely hilarious and is guaranteed to improve your mood. Perhaps you could have it playing in the background while you read this post.
Tangent: When I was very young, I attended my brother’s little-league soccer awards ceremony. I remember it all so clearly. Part of the program included a slideshow of the soccer season, and the background music just happened to be … THE FINAL COUNTDOWN. As I sat in the darkened auditorium, I was so awed by this spectacle of soccer action shots and adrenaline-pumping ’80s pop, that I decided then and there that soccer was definitely the awesomest thing on sweet planet earth, and nothing would stop me from being a part of it. My mom was like, “You want to join soccer? Sure.”
I later found myself crushingly disappointed to discover that soccer wasn’t even a fraction as cool as that slideshow had led me to believe.
Anyway, here comes a KIDDIE ROUNDUP! Do da doo doo, do da do do doo! I will now refrain from attempting to type out the synthesizer solo.

Next, a $20 thrift-store desk makeover from Alicia at Drunk on Junk. It all started with the loft bed she surprised her daughter with on Christmas. With the bed up and out of the way, that meant more room for fun furnishings! Such a fun space.
Speaking of Christmas, Better After reader Anne reupholstered this kid-sized chair as a gift for her son, who happens to be obsessed with BIG cats. Tigers, cheetahs, cougars, you name it. She reports that he loves it so much, he drags it upstairs and downstairs so he won’t have to sit anywhere else! I’d call that a success.
And here comes another kiddie chair for ya. Not that we don’t love Blue’s Clue’s around here, but I can’t really see this little chair complementing anyone’s decor. Plus it’s a chair … with a picture of a dog … sitting in a chair. That is some scary Inception stuff right there.
Better After reader Lyndsay certainly didn’t want to gaze at that sight, so she took it apart at the seams and used the pieces as a pattern for a look that everyone can love.

This last one I discovered this morning as I rolled over in bed, cracked one eye open and checked Instagram on my phone. It’s like my morning paper. I was so enamored with this papasan chair makeover from the incredibly talented Beth and Nick at Sawdust and Embryos that I just had to share.
