Getting stoned

Hiiiiiii gang!

Remember me? It’s been a long time. Ok, like two weeks, but that’s a long time for me to disappear. So sorry to do that and leave you hanging. I’ve received lots of sweet emails and messages asking where the heck I am and if I’m OK, and what’s the deal. Thanks so much for taking the time to check on me.

Here’s the deal. I got my first ever kidney stone. HOLY SHARK BUTTS, it’s literally the worst thing I’ve ever done. Zero out of five stars – do not recommend. If you’ve ever had one, you’re likely nodding your head in agreement and shedding a tear of solidarity.Β  I don’t have a worst enemy, but I wish I did so I could NOT wish this on them. I’d rather be in labor. Truthfully. #1 – It’s shorter, and #2 – free baby for finishing.

It’s been an extra fun ride. My body responded like the champ that it’s not: becoming fully incapable of functioning and inviting a bunch of infections over to party in my organs. So I’ve been down for a while.

But I finally got in to the doctor, and got some medication, and look at me, I’m sitting upright and typing again and thoughts are kind of flowing out of my brain sort of, so I think I might just make it after all.

Anyway, just wanted to give you a heads up! Thanks again so much for all your kindness and concern. We will return to your regularly scheduled blog … eh … when I feel like it. But probably soon.

Your friend and kidney stone survivor (so far),

Lindsey

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad you’re okay…I was concerned… not concerned enough to comment on a previous post about your whereabouts or to email you or anything…but still every day that you hadn’t posted I was concerned…and said a little prayer for you…because I was concerned. Happy to see you’re getting better. Take care, friend! πŸ™‚

Start drinking lots and lots of water. And don’t over do the vitamin C. That’s what the doctor told my dad when he had one.

I work at a urology office and have seen grown men on their knees crying. I am so sorry. Drink lots of lemonade (or beer if you are a beer drinker). Lemonade is like a diuretic and will flush you out. Hope you are better soon.

Gah! You and me babe go t the sicko parts down pat to even the timing! Ye gods, the pains in my gut from my horrendous (no need to use icky words here) elongated digestive processing device was worse than labour pains, and I have had a 10 lb 9oz baby so I damn well know what I am talking about! PLUS! I had the fever specially delivered by Satan himself. THEN I got the hacking cough only a 4 pack a day old bloke would be proud of. SO, yeah….shine on! Some start to my fun holiday in USA. I am talking 2 weeks of bleurghs and icks and pain!
My heart goes out to you, cos it’s about the only organ left that functions at the moment.

Mystery solved. It’s so not like you to just not show up, so of course our imaginations ran a little wild. Not to make light of your kidney stone, but it could’ve been so much worse, just ask us! Anyway…..hope you’re blessed with a speedy complete recovery and we’ll wait patiently until you do. God bless.

So glad you are on the mend. My DH had a kidney stone 7 years ago that just wouldn’t pass naturally so they had to go get it. Now he drinks lots and lots and LOTS of water because he says he’s never going through that again. I hope you never get another one either!

Poor you. I am so sorry. I’ve had five and they get easier. I remember asking my ex to please kill me during the first one. As others have said, drink plenty of fluids and get to the ER for painkillers. I keep Dilaudid in my purse at all times!

Kidney stones are horrible. The first one I had, I thought I was dying. Like, childhood memories rushed through my mind, and I was doubled-over in the bathroom and made a concerted effort to crawl to the bedroom because I didn’t want them to find my body curled up near the grubby toilet.
Glad you survived it. After the 2nd stone in 6 months, I cut back soda and oranges (I was eating oranges once a day at the time) and haven’t had once since. Not that you asked for advice, or my life story, but there you have it. Glad you are on the mend! Nothing but well-wishes your way from a fellow AZ girl.

Dear Lindsey, get the only thing in the world to break down them rocks and also prevent new because it breaks down the crystals that eventually gather and become a stone: in the States it’s called Chanca Piedra. You can buy it online. It’s originally Brazilian and the name in Portuguese is Cha de Quebra Pedra. The taste is not horrible, so it’s easy to drink it on a regular basis. It works!! Even my doctor knows about it and highly recommends it if you can find it β€” that’s easy… What can’t you find on the internet, right?! Be well!

Sorry, forgot to say that Chanca Piedra is a tea β€” comes in little bags like any other tea.
