Post Up

People often bemoan the lost art of letter-writing, but let’s not forget the kid sister of hand-written letters: the postcard. Do people send postcards anymore? I can’t remember the last time I sent or received one.

That ends today, my friends. I happen to have a stack of postcards sitting right here on my shelf, because even though I don’t send them, I apparently like to buy them.  Leave a comment and I’ll mail a few of you lovely souls a postcard with a handwritten note. Perhaps a doodle of a dinosaur if I’m really feeling it. Or a knock-knock joke. What could be more exciting??? OBVIOUSLY NOTHING.

I even have the perfect place to sit and compose these sure-to-be masterpieces:

Postcard desk before makeover

Postcard desk

A desk that looks like a giant vintage postcard! So lovely. This desk belongs to Jenny at Ava Blake Creations who gave it a shabby chic makeover and hand-painted that artwork and script. By herself. With her hands. I mean … it’s no dinosaur doodle, but it’s pretty great.

I really like the desk, and i actually collect postcards. I have some from all over the world. I have every intention of putting together a photo album/scrapbook of my postcards.

That desk is gorgeous! The chair is pretty sweet too. Definitely the prettiest shabby chic makeover I’ve ever seen.

I would love to get a post card. I actually used to send post cards when I would travel. (Years before online posting of everything.) I used to buy them for myself because I always figured the photography is better than mine.

My parents traveled a lot before my Mom passed away and she ALWAYS sent at least one post card. My husband’s cousin sends cards to us frequently – and she lives about 10 miles away! She’s quirky that way! 🙂

My family loves postcards, although we are not very traditional in our messages. On a card with a public water fountain we descibed a plumbing problem at home. Glacier? A runaway ice maker. Seagulls and Alcatraz? Daring jailbirds escape.

I love postcards – I have grand plans for different ways to display them but you’re right, I buy them myself no one sends them to me! Love the desk, just what I need for my little home office.

Lindsey, we send post cards when we travel — to the very young (starting in infancy), very old, and good friends who have occasionally been traveling companions. I have always loved receiving “real” mail, and I have every post card I’ve ever received!

This is such a cute makeover! Postcards are great. I also like vintage travel posters – I have a Cuba poster in my kitchen right now.

Hi Lindsey – I’m a bit of a post card collector too. Not always intentionally though. Like those times we go on vacation and I buy postcards to send to family and friends – then find them in my bag when we’re on our way home. I’ve been known to post them from the airport so they actually get delivered to their recipients a few days after we get home…. Or sometimes they just come home with me as another souvenir to add to my postcard collection! 😳

I love postcards. I have them from all over the world, but you’re right: pre-email I certainly received a lot more of them in the mail, and yes, a lot of mine I buy for myself for the artwork. Funny(?) sidenote: I recently went to Phoenix and almost posted a comment “Hi Lindsey, guess what? I’m in your neighborhood.” However, my fear of being labeled a crazy internet stalker kept me from chiming in! I could have sent you a Phoenix postcard! Send me your address and I’ll send you one from the Gulf of Mexico!

I send lots of postcards, usually just to annoy my neices and nephews but now they are older they love them. address is 7 Ferdinand Street, stratford, New Zealand.
I also swap lots of postcards on swap-bot.com. you could look there for great swaps to send and receive.
