From Musty to Must-see!

One time I went to the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena with a couple of friends, and one of those friends found a velvet mustard headboard just like this one. It was glorious. It was also enormous, but she insisted that she could fit it in the minivan we were traveling in, no problem.

I insisted that she was Wrong with a capital W. Much arguing ensued. Turns out I was right, there was no way on earth it was going to fit, and so it didn’t come home with us after all. She was sad, but I was fist-pumping on the inside because who wants to ride from Pasadena to Phoenix crammed in a minivan with a musty headboard inches away from your face the entire time? Not this girl.

As awesome as this headboard is, it had some damage, and you know it was full of funky mustiness too.

But Eri came to the rescue and recovered it with some gorgeous Irish linen and multi-colored velvet on the buttons. So cute! She also stripped the varnish on the wood for a more natural look, and you can see more on her blog LuLu’s Cupboard.

It’s much better but I’m not sure about the multi-colored buttons. Hmm…

I went to her site and had a close up look at the buttons on and a chair she did the same thing with. It is pretty and unique!

THE BUTTONS! šŸ˜€ Just a tiny hint of allllll the colors, which is probably better than having ALL THE COLORS everywhere (which is totally what I would have done, and it would look like a hot mess) xD

Nice job, but I would have stuck with one color on the buttons unless she was going for a specific look, or I might have used crystal buttons. Fancy schmancy, especially with gold trim on the headboard.

OH my GOSH!!! I LOVE IT!!! I really love the multicolored buttons on it, it is exactly my type of thing, plenty of neutral with little pops of color. Just love it. Must go see her blog. I just love mixing the elegant with the bit of playfulness, she pulled it off really well.

I love this headboard so much that I am now on the hunt for one. But, the colored buttons? All I’ve got to say is that after viewing the “after” I had a strong craving for M&M’s. Just saying.

The multi colored buttons are great! Much more fun–in my opinion–than the standard route taken with tufting. But then again, I painted giant, various sized dots all over my guest bathroom because it made me happy (and still does), so I don’t know if my opinions are 100% sound.
