Is anyone else limping across the finish line as the school year winds down? I am officially out of gas. One of my kids went to school today with nothing but a juice box and crackers in his lunchbox. I was shocked that we even had juice boxes. Just one more day of school left for us here, and then it’s summmmmmmmmer! Time to kick back, relax, and stand underneath the air conditioner until October.
I’m hoping to get the kids on some kind of summer-time-fun-time-chore-time routine so I don’t go completely mad. If you have any pointers or charts or things that have worked for you, please hook a girl up!
And speaking of chore-time fun, such a thing really is possible. But only if your laundry room is as adorable as Kristyn’s. A little storage and a little color make a lot of difference. So cute!

May 20, 2015 at 4:22 PMFirst of all, I am freaking jealous she gets to do laundry in that cute, cute room. I think I would put a cot in there and call it mine!
Secondly, that blog post written by Jen Hatmaker is hilarious! She nails it.

May 24, 2015 at 1:47 PMFor our kids and chores, we had a rotating chore list that hung on the fridge. Every day of the week everyone had a certain “big” chore that they had to do. For example, Mondays and Wednesdays, I knew I had dishes which made sense since the kids had games/practices on those days. Why give your kids chores on days you know they have an activity? For our family of four, we knew we would only household chores (dishes, vacuuming, dusting, taking out trash, etc) twice a week. Small chores were assigned by the child’s request and/or age. My dau loved to feed/water our pets and she loved doing that so that was her daily chore. I don’t mind doing laundry (wash and dry only – everyone had to put their own clothes away) so that was my almost daily chore (we lived in a rural area so someone was always muddy/dirty). Having the list printed out made it so much easier to follow up on the person who needed to do the big chores and daily small chores. There was no fighting over who did dishes last, etc. Plus mom and dad help with the big chores so no child in the house could say they were being abused (teenagers – sigh). Hope this gives you some ideas for your children’s chore list.

May 26, 2015 at 2:16 PMWe had 3 girls in 3.5 years and when they were growing up (actually till they left home) they had “your day”. If Monday was your day then you set the table, cleared it, put food away and helped with the dishes. You also ran errands “hey can you go pick me some chives out of the garden?”BUT you also got to have the last piece of cake, pick the TV show, ride shotgun etc. There was so much less fighting, all because of “your day”. The girls each got 2 days a week, and then my husband and I had 1 day. It worked well for us. Good luck!
