Rattan you out.

If you had told me a few years ago that rattan would be back in a big way, I would have reacted the same way I did when my plumber told me he’d be here between 8:00 and 9:00 this morning to fix my broken faucet: doubt and disbelief. Maye an eye-roll.  I was right about my plumber (it’s noon and I’m still waiting. Ugh! I have stuffs to DO!) but wrong about rattan!

Kat at Katch of the Day rescued this dried up desk and painted it a mossy shade of green. There’s currently a rattan desk for sale on a certain website … we’ll say it rhymes with “Fun Swings Train,” priced for nearly $2000! And it’s not nearly as cute as this one! Great find Kat.

And speaking of rattan, pretend we weren’t, because this dresser features zero rattan. But Karen painted it a similar shade of green and did a really lovely job of distressing it. Much better than the rabid possum or angry child who distressed it in the first place.

Oh yeah, and there’s also a fern leaf detail.  You may have noticed it.

Fantastic! Head on over to her blog  Art is Beauty and take a closer look. The restored top is especially gorgeous.

That color of green is gorgeous and both pieces are stunning.

Also, what rhymes with Fun Swings Train? I’m having a mind fart.

I was totally stuck on the “Fun Swings Train” clue. I kept thinking feng shui in my head but wasn’t aware of any furniture sales site with that name! One Kings Lane definitely makes more sense. 🙂

I like to go on One Kings Lane and just look at pretty stuff (and play a price guessing game with my kids. Some stuff is totally reasonably priced and other stuff is crazy expensive. I guess I’m not high end enough to understand why). I have totally bought two things from there. So, even though I am familiar with the site, I couldn’t figure out the rhyme either (in the 12 seconds I spent on it).

I love how that first piece has chevron going on on the side. (Sentences with two ‘ons’ or two ‘thats’ in a row totally amuse me). That piece is SO “in” right now, probably even more “in” now than when it was created. That was forward thinking on the designer’s part!
