When I was young, I had this strange habit of coming straight home from school and reading the newspaper. It sounds super nerdy, but I was really just reading the comics. Then Dear Abby. Then the letters to the editor. Ok, so maybe it was a little nerdy.
After I did the crossword puzzle (*sigh,* fine, I WAS a nerd), my favorite thing was the “Spot the Differences” puzzle. You know, where there are two almost identical pictures and you have to find the differences between them?
Today’s makeover is a little bit like that. Sure, there are some big changes in Sherry’s living room, namely the wall treatment and the furniture, but what else? Let’s look closer …
I spot: new curtains, a new cabinet on the left, cuckoo clock is gone, console table has been painted, TV has moved, all artwork and accessories have changed, and I think the lamp is now behind the couch. Did I miss anything?

January 23, 2015 at 9:33 AMGreat makeovers! And, yeah, the whole spelling error phenomenon is the reason I was able to purchase a $2500 brand new “cowch” on eBay for $200. Now, eBay has fixed that problem, but craigslist is still fair game 😉

January 23, 2015 at 9:43 AMI like both before and after on this one. The after is certainly stylish and much more “put together” but the before is, well, lived-in-looking, something I would expect to walk into almost. But, in the end, it is better after, ha! xD

January 23, 2015 at 11:59 AMMoving that TV makes SUCH a difference. While I like the streamlined furniture and the wall color much better in the after, moving that giant black box is the key. You know it’s funny: We all know that TVs are ugly. First they dressed them up as dressers, hoping we wouldn’t notice, then we stuck them in big pieces of furniture to cover them up but but this time the TV was on all the time so the doors to the furniture were never closed. Then someone said, “I know! Let’s make them black. Black makes everything look skinnier.” And they DID get skinnier. But then they got wider and we were still left with giant black boxes. There is no solution, but I sure like this room better when that black box isn’t staring me in the face.

January 23, 2015 at 8:11 PMI agree! I have a designer friend who has a painting that slides over hers, but it just looks weird when you actually USE the tv! Invisible tvs are the future!

January 24, 2015 at 1:15 PMThe cabinets beside each side of fireplace are different, carpet, no fireplace tools, it even looks as if there is wall paper on the walls…linen-like. I love the after room much better than the other one. Thanks for sharing~

January 24, 2015 at 2:35 PMI’d much rather have the before on this one, it’s cozy, cheerful, has some color and personality, the after, meh just another copy of another room from some magazine, bleh. The tv placement is better after though, so there, something positive 🙂

January 31, 2018 at 12:23 AMGood job on the makeover! Though I feel that there is a place for that cuckoo clock somewhere in this room, it makes it homey.
