Hi friends. Hope you had a happy weekend. I am discovering that recovery from my eye surgery is taking a lot longer than I planned on. I am actually blogging this by talking into the voice activated feature on my phone from my bed, with my eyes closed tight, in the dark. I hope I am in fact blogging and not saying all this in a text message to my mother-in-law or something like that. Who knows.
I didn’t have the typical LASIK surgery, mine was a little more intense called PRK, which is where they do the laser directly on the surface of the eyeball because the cornea is too thin. I hope you’re not eating breakfast and reading this. Ew. Sorry.
Anyway, I hope will be 100% here soon. And capable of doing things like looking at computer screens, and driving, and not having to remember what my kids look like based on memory alone.
I will be back whenever possible, and I will announce the winner of the giveaway as soon as I can, so I guess that’s just extra time to get those entries in!
See you soon!
Literally!
I hope!

October 13, 2014 at 12:08 PMI had PRK done at the beginning of August, so I’m 2 months out and can tell you that the horrible, burning pain and misery will end! I took a week off of work to lay in bed with frozen corn on my eyes and wonder why I ever had surgery. A week and a half after the surgery both eyes all of a sudden cleared up and I’ve been seeing great since then. They keep refining themselves but I haven’t had blurry eyes since then. Just a note of caution- the dry eye at night can get absolutely brutal. I’ve started taking Fish Oil supplements, which are helping. Good luck PRK sister!!!

October 13, 2014 at 12:10 PMOh, that is such a relief to hear! I too have been having doubts about why I ever did this in the first place! My doctor wasn’t super descriptive on just how rough it would be, or how long it would take. I just keep having faith in all the people that tell me it is worth it in the end!

October 13, 2014 at 1:28 PMMy doctor was the same way- hardly anyone gets PRK so they aren’t helpful. Apparently it’s used on military, police, and fire personnel because getting hit in the eye after Lasik can upset the flap but PRK doesn’t have one. My husband had Lasik 4 years ago and I can see better than him now. PRK also has greater results of lasting years later in life than Lasik. Doesn’t really make the pain worth it, but there is less chance of complications later. Try to take the drops but don’t worry if you miss some days- I stopped a month early because the dryness was too much to handle. My eyes are sensitive to rubbing right now, but they are still healing after 2 months and the fish oil really does help me not have to peel off my eyelids in the morning.

October 13, 2014 at 3:13 PMThat’s awesome, I’m going to have to get some fish oil for sure. How long did you keep your lenses in?

October 13, 2014 at 1:42 PMI had PRK in 2005. The first week was HORRIBLE – I describe it like having shampoo in your eyes for a week. The second week got better. After that, It was the best thing I ever did! Hang in there!

October 13, 2014 at 2:14 PMI had PRK and was told by the dr and nurses that it would just take a few more days longer to heal than the LASIK- lies all lies! I gave myself a week for healing, but really it required longer- like 6 weeks. I wasn’t able to drive for 4 weeks which really threw a kink into our routines. Because I couldn’t even see well enough to watch tv/movies (super depressing) I listened to a lot of talk radio (NPR!) and listened to books on tape. My eyes were super dry for a long time, but after I finally healed, I used an ointment/gel on my eyes every night- I still use it during allergy season. It took 9 months for me to finally get my 20/20 in both eyes (left eye was fine after 6-8 weeks) and I’m super glad that I had the surgery. I still remember wondering if it was even worth it when I was healing though.
It took at least 6 months before I stopped automatically reaching for my glasses first thing in the morning!

October 14, 2014 at 5:43 AMAhhhh! Hope you improve quickly. My husband had PRK done 5 years ago, two weeks after our infant daughter was born, b/c then he would be home to help out around the house w/ our 1.5 year old. HA HA… I ended up buying those room darkening curtains, and taping them to the wall w/ painters tape, and having to care for 3 babies ;).

October 14, 2014 at 7:30 AMI had PRK done 15 years ago – I was the ‘guinea pig’ in our optometrists office (where I was working). I looked like I’d been in a bar fight for a few days but let me just say I would do it again in a heart beat! It is wonderful and after so many years they can’t even tell I’ve had it done. Just rest up, stay in bed if you can, drink lots of water and wear your sunglasses. The drops are a bit of a pain but it will get easier.

October 14, 2014 at 7:51 AMI was supposed to keep my lenses in for 5 days, but that hit on the weekend so it was actually going to be a week by the time I got to the doctor. I took them out myself on day 5 and was fine. Pretty sensitive and sore right afterwards but worth being done with them. My eyes were blurry and would alternate not being able to see out of one or the other for the week and a half, but I was back to work a week after surgery and could see the computer at least.
