Can we all agree on something? This dresser was not ever going to be a quality piece of heirloom furniture. This dresser was lucky that Bre even took a chance on it and rescued it from the ‘free’ section of Craigslist.
OhMYGOSHyouguys, can we also talk about the ‘free’ section of Craigslist? It is a wonderland of crazy. It is like Disneyland, if Disneyland was terrible and frightening but hey, free! You should have a look sometime. Here are a few things you can currently get yourself for free in my area: many broken TVs, an enormous tree that fell over in a recent windstorm (you haul!), a free hospital bed (what?! hurk!) and a free corner wedge of a sectional sofa.
Bre’s particle board dresser is looking better and better, now that I think about it. With a few modifications and a big splash of color, she turned it into much-needed kitchen storage for her friend. So cool! See more on her blog Brepurposed.

May 22, 2014 at 3:01 PMWoo hoo! Thanks so much for featuring me Lindsey! Isn’t is absurd the types of things people put on craigslist?! Hope you have a great day! 🙂

May 22, 2014 at 3:42 PMNice work on that dresser! And those free broken televisions end up at my house where they are dismantled and sold for parts. It is the dear hubby’s hobby.

May 22, 2014 at 8:35 PMI didn’t know you could do that with particle board. kinda makes you re-think the free section of Craig’s list.

May 22, 2014 at 10:33 PMNice work. I’m especially impressed that she was able to find new handles to fit the holes and didn’t resort to the “two knob” solution.

May 22, 2014 at 10:46 PMOkay, this post inspired me to check out the Free section of Craigslist. We live in the same metro area, and I think I found that corner wedge of the sectional sofa you mentioned. I think my favorite ad is one offering a half dozen buckets of broken glass. (It looks like safety glass, so it’s not as bad as it sounds.)

May 23, 2014 at 9:21 AMI keep meaning to post on this very subject, but haven’t yet. A couple years ago I saw an old gym locker basket on the free section, along with scrap wood. The wood looked bad, but figured if burning someone’s scrap wood was the price for a basket, I was getting a good deal! I contacted the person, who never sent me their name, went to their apartment with my husband at the time I was told would be good, knocked on the door to no answer. Puzzled, I turned around to see the stuff at the back door (these apts are old Navy housing, and the front and back door are all pretty much right next to each other!), picked it up, went to our van, and immediately got a text from them saying thank you, and sorry they couldn’t be there, they had to work. I know I’m doing a terrible job telling the story, but it was so weird! An agoraphobic? I don’t know, why go to the effort of posting an ad for giving a basket away? The wood appeared to be torn apart cheap furniture, and full of staples. I’m very happy to have the basket, whatever weirdness is behind it!

May 23, 2014 at 10:43 AMHahaha!! I think I own that exact dresser–weird gold handles that stare back at you and all! It was the first item of furniture we bought as a broke, newlywed, college-student married couple 19 years ago. It never was mean’t to be a long term thing, but somehow it has survived. It’s now in my 16 year old daughters room. She is planning on painting it a mustard color this summer.
Great Makeover.

May 26, 2014 at 10:38 AMVery cute bar, but my take away is the paper on the sides of the drawers. How clever is that?
