Is there anything in your home that you deeply dislike, but you’ve lived with it for so long that you’ve become blind to it? Don’t let that happen to you. It’s bad for the soul. (I can’t prove that, but I bet it’s true). Look around. What have you been tolerating? In my old house, I had these fake little panels on the ends of my kitchen cabinets that did not even come close to matching. DROVE ME NUTS EVERYDAY. Everyday! I lived there for five years! Why didn’t I just do something about it?
Don’t be like me. Just start somewhere. Make small changes if that’s all you can do, but do something.
Better After reader Sudhakar had lived with this dated bathroom for ten years, and finally got to change it up recently. It took eight months to finish, but now it’s done and beautiful, and a shiny little gem of a room, whereas before it was anything but.
Say goodbye to exposed plumbing, and hello to this showcase of a shower!
How do you feel about the tiled walls? I feel like I like it! Seems very cool and clean, which is how bathrooms should feel. No one wants to walk into a bathroom and think, “Oooh, so warm and homey! I’d love to cozy up in here with a mug of cocoa!” Also, did you know that radiators can be sexy? If you don’t know, now you know.
The sink is a stunner, although Sudhakar has lived to regret this choice. Apparently, it is impossible to keep clean! But if the choice is between cleaning a gorgeous sink often, or hating an ugly sink everyday … not a tough decision.

May 7, 2014 at 6:03 PMA cool, chic makeover – nice work, Sudhakar. The sink is abssolutely gorgeous, it’s worth all the cleaning.
I agree – no cocoa in the bathroom. Bleah! I love that song, great post title and great advice. Why do I let the little uglies around my house remain, when they would not be that hard to fix? I feel inspired now.

May 8, 2014 at 6:29 AMTestify! Our house was mostly remodeled before we bought it, but the hall bath was not, so the walls were poopy brown and the tub had thosessliding doors. I hate those. When I had the baby, my father in law took the doors off and repainted for me. Much better!

May 8, 2014 at 6:56 AMI love that she can throw a bath towel on the bar in front of the radiator and get out of the shower with a warm towel! Luxurious!

May 8, 2014 at 8:07 PMHa! The thing in my house that I’m tolerating and can’t wait to change is a sink just like that!
It’s beautiful in your bathroom, because your bathroom SUITS it. But MY bathroom was built in the 80’s with an almond-colored tub (remember “almond” appliances and plumbing?) and a chequered floor and a country oak vanity. Before they sold the house, the last owners slapped a new counter and a fancy glass sink on there. I don’t know what I hate about it most: that it’s never clean or that it looks like lipstick on a pig.

May 8, 2014 at 9:43 PMHey guess what! I did it I painted my bathroom. I lived with it for 2 years. It went from an icky maroon to and lovely gray. I love it!

May 9, 2014 at 8:26 PMI say throw in a floor drain right in the middle. Wouldn’t it be rad to spray down the bathroom once a month!!!

June 18, 2014 at 7:00 AMThanks for featuring my bathroom. Most days I love it, some days it annoys me. Does anyone have a tip for cleaning under one of those sinks? I actually have dark chocolate bath mats and hand towels which really go well with the colour scheme by being a total contrast. Chocolate and gray is the scheme for all my other rooms. A floor drain would be good.
