Pleasantly Purple

Did somebody say PURPLE?  No?  I’ll bet they did.  I bet ten thousand people on earth just said the word ‘purple’ right now. Let’s all say it together: PURPLE!  Yay, purple is fun!

Now please prepare yourself for some purple repurposed pieces. You’ve been warned.  They’re bold!

Pelham painted this dresser his very favorite color (purple, of course), with plans to sell it, only he loved it so much he couldn’t bear to part with it. See how he mixed up that custom shade with milkpaint on his blog Urban Den.

And while Pelham’s dresser may have left some of you wood-purists clutching your pearls, I think everyone can agree that Desiree’s horrid orange chair needed a drastic change. What better than purple paint and zebra print?  Ummm, nothing that I can think of.

I think Desiree’s chair and Pelham’s dresser need to move in together. Or at least throw a party and invite me.  See more at New View Furniture.

Oh my gosh! That is coo coo crazy! What a ‘violent shade’ of purple indeed! And the carpeted bathtub! Triple yikes! hahahaha!

My husband and I painted out office purple and gray (my idea). However, the purple I chose was so hideously “Barney-esque” in tone that friends and family didn’t have the heart to tell me how bad it looked. LOL! But I knew it… 2 weeks later I decided it needed to be lavender. My husband gave a HUGE sigh of relief! The office is now lovely and muted. By the way, that purple dresser is GORGEOUS! I must copy it…don’t tell my husband Lindsey! 😉

Haha, I won’t tell! That reminds me of a friend of mine who went out of town for the weekend. While she was gone, her husband painted the bathroom to surprise her, only he picked like the most depressing shade of maroon, and let the kids help, and there were drips everywhere. But they were all so proud of themselves, she couldn’t bear to tell them how horrifying it actually was and lived with it for years!

I can’t tell you how much I love purple. Mainly in clothes and accessories with some white or beige or any kind of earth-colours. BUT this purple dresser is simply stunning. I love it so much 🙂

I’m going to try to stay positive here, especially for your sake, Lindsey, but I mourn the loss of that gorgeous dresser that looked much better with visible, natural wood grain and a shiny finish. Sure, the finish needed touch ups in a few places, but that dresser would totally have been worth it. Was it antique?

While I’m not opposed to painting furniture if a piece happens to be beyond recovery or brand new and ‘cookie cutter’, in fact, I’ve done so myself. But this change just makes me sad. I can’t stand purple, and I can only think of one or two worse things that might’ve been done to that beautiful veteran piece of furniture.

At least the dresser is being cared for and loved, and good on ya Pelham for doing so.

Not a fan of the chair either, for similar reasons. I would’ve stained the wood with an orange tint and changed the upholstery to a vintage print. (Hey, that rhymes! 😀 ) Not my chair though, so I hope Desiree cares for and enjoys it a long time.

Love this blog. Thanks for the chance to state my opinion.

Oh my goodness! That will wake a person up! I just have a hard time imagining how these pieces would fit into a home’s decor that wasn’t like the house Angela R. posted above 🙂
