Happy Friday! I survived my glucose test, and actually didn’t feel nearly as crappy as usual. Woohoo! But then … things around here got really crappy, literally.
I found out that our water company has been putting our payments in the wrong account for the last two months when they shut off our water yesterday afternoon with no warning. Hours of phone calls and emails ensued, and they promised our water would be back on by 5 pm. Which turned into 8 pm. Which turned into 10 pm. Which turned into 8 AM, and still no water.
Do you know what happens when no one in your household can flush a toilet for 17 hours? Just imagine. No, don’t. I felt like I was on that cruise ship that lost power for five days in the middle of the ocean.
Finally, after another round of phone calls and a nasty email this morning, they moseyed over and turned it back on. Made me really realize how grateful I was for running water; something so easy to take for granted. Moral: thank your faucet today!
So, it seems like a good day to catch up on my dishes and laundry and … er… toilet scrubbing, so I’ll probably be turning on Netflix and not leaving the house for a while. If you’re in the mood for a movie day too, here are a few great dresser-turned-media-centers you are sure to enjoy!
Shanun at The Burnt Toast Chronicles needed a sturdier TV stand to accommodate her husband’s “stupid-size TV,” and knew this dresser would do the trick. The miracle of white paint strikes again.
Better After reader Sierra had the same idea, only she did hers in a beautiful shade of jade. Can you beleive she paid $10 at a yard sale for that dresser? WHERE are all these fabulous yard sales taking place? I need addresses, people.
If you don’t like the look of the exposed shelving for your DVD players and components and such, here’s what Better After reader Sarah came up with: hinges! She removed the top drawer faces, then reattached them so they flip down when in use, and back up to hide everything when not in use! She’s a smarty pants, that one.
And finally, where I saw a dresser painted in a color that could only be called What Happens When Your Water Is Shut Off For 17 Hours, Jenny saw an apothecary-style media stand just waiting to emerge. Looks great and SO MUCH storage too! See more on her blog Ava Blake Creations.

November 15, 2013 at 10:38 PMSorry about your water issues. 🙁 I had a similar issue this year, but with my drains. I was lucky, though, in that I could run to my mother’s house (a mile away) while I was waiting for plumber to come.
These dressers are great! I want one that’s the style of the second dresser, but I’d paint it blue (minus the distressing) like the fourth dresser, and I’d make the drawer faces flip down like the third dresser.

Thanks, Faye

November 17, 2013 at 2:45 PMI need that apothecary style stand in my house. I could keep all my Halloween decorations in it. So then poeple would open the drawers looking for DVDs and it would be all like, bam skulls. Keeps guests on their toes, that’s what I always say.
