I don’t care if your house is a big ball of crazy. Wacky color schemes and eclectic furniture? Awesome. Into simple neutrals? That’s great too! Your home needs to make YOU happy. But … if you walk into a room and describe it as boring and uninspiring? Well honey. That just won’t do.
That’s exactly how my good friend Adrienne felt about her bedroom. As a super busy working mom of four young boys (with a girl on the way!), her bedroom’s decor just wasn’t high on the list of priorities.
But who deserves a restful retreat at the end of the day more than busy moms? Literally the only group of people I can think of are like, ER surgeons.
So when HomeGoods invited me to be part of their Happy Home Resolutions contest, I hopped, skipped, and jumped at the chance! First of all, I frickin’ LOVE HomeGoods, and second of all, that meant I could help Adrienne go from this:
to this!
When a national study found that making small changes to your home’s decor can measurably boost your mood, HomeGoods was like, “Yeah! We know!” They used those findings to create their six “Happy Home Resolutions,” to share easy ways for you to improve your home’s happiness.
The resolution I was asked to focus on was improving a room’s mood with decorative accessories. Yay, my favorite! I’ve long said that anyone can put a bed in a bedroom, but it’s that extra 10% that really make a room special.
Adrienne’s room had the very basics: a bed, two nightstands, and two lamps. We needed to take it to the next level with some decor. But to me, accessories are more than just knick-knacks taking up space. They need to bring different elements to a room:
Something personal.
Something colorful!
Texture!
And my favorite element of all: something shiny!
Does this room not seem 1000% happier already? Just looking at the pictures makes me happy.
See the rest of the Happy Home Resolutions in action over on the HomeGoods Happy Home Resolutions Pinterest board.
And, since it is a contest, there’s a prize involved too! This bedroom makeover is my entry in the contest against 11 other bloggers. *gulp*
If I win, I get to give away FIVE HomeGoods giftcards to you, dear readers!
All you have to do to vote is ‘like’ and repin my pin. Click, click, you’re done!
I would really, really appreciate it. I love to give you stuff. And to kick off the contest, I’ve got a $100 gift card to HomeGoods to giveaway right now! Entering is easy, simply leave a comment! Earn another entry by re-pinning my pin right HERE.
Win! $100 HomeGoods Gift Card!
Thank you HomeGoods for providing gift cards to incorporate the Happy Home Resolutions. As always opinions are 100% my own.

October 7, 2013 at 11:42 AMThose blue horses are the bomb. I bought some horse head bookends at an estate sale for 5 dollars, husband thought I was nuts since they are plain, jane natural ceramic. But I plan on putting a coat of glossy paint on them someday and your blue ones are inspiring me!

October 7, 2013 at 4:00 PMI can’t pin at work (I guess it makes sense to block one of the biggest time-wasting sites that has nothing to do with my work – but it sucks!) so here’s my happy little comment. I love the after. I adore a fluffy white cover on a bed, but my husband won’t let me change out the black and grey that we have. Now that we have two huge black (and tan and white and grey) dogs, I guess it makes sense. Seeing as they are the ones who lay on the bed the most. Ha ha.

October 7, 2013 at 4:04 PMI call HomeGoods my other home. I don’t go more than every other week though, too dangerous!

October 7, 2013 at 8:55 PMVery nice! You know what I think about master bedrooms especially if you have kids? They are THE most important room to decorate in the house! Cuz that’s probably the only room in the house you can really call your own –providing the kids don’t crawl in bed with you too often 😉
Amanda
October 7, 2013 at 8:59 PMAmazing! I love HomeGoods and my favorite are the nightstands personality and charachter for each. I love the crispiness of the room and simpleness yet how it still looks comforting and relaxing!
Catherine
October 7, 2013 at 9:05 PMLove Home Goods! They have such a great range and heaps of really affordable stuff. Great bedroom makeover!
Val
October 7, 2013 at 9:15 PMI love the horse head! My biggest garage sale regret is selling two wooden horse head bookends before the colorful animal trend started. I just didn’t think I had a place for them, and couldn’t picture them as anything other than the wood they currently were. Oh well, I am sure they are making someone else very happy!
Amanda :)
October 7, 2013 at 9:29 PMI love how peaceful it looks. Great job!

October 7, 2013 at 11:11 PMI LOVE the make over and I LOVE Homegoods! Do you know whether the money spends just as well at TJ Maxx as Homegoods? There isn’t an actual Homegoods in my area.
Andi
October 8, 2013 at 1:45 AMI don’t know, I’m just not crazy about the whole white duvet bedding trend. Seems as if you would constantly have to be washing the darn thing. Which is OK if you have a washer/dryer right there outside the master, I guess, but not so much if it’s a loooong way to the facilities. That would get old real fast, stuffing and unstuffing that duvet cover all the time. I’m old school one piece comforter and I’m so not into stuffing all the time that I bought extra pillows for the shams (they’re only there to look pretty, not as if you actually sleep on those). And why is every. single. master. makeover. always blue? I’d love to see one actually spin the color wheel a bit.
I do heart Home Goods, though! Do those bookends come in red?
Susanna
October 8, 2013 at 1:51 AMWow! The updates look fantastic!
