Does a kitchen need to be big to be beautiful? Did you know that Ryan Gosling is only 5’6″? (That’s not true, but I googled ‘short Hollywood hunks’ to make my point, and all it gave me was Danny Devito, Jack Black, and Mel Gibson. Short, yes. Hunks … that’s debatable. Ryan Gosling is a respectable 6’1″, in case you were wondering.)
But back to the point. Big doesn’t always mean beautiful. Small can be just as hunky, if not more. Case at hand: what Better After reader Lynn did in the galley kitchen of her 1100 sf condo. It’s gorgeous! Great idea to lose those mini-cabinets over the sink in place of full glass-front cabinets. And that backsplash! It’s a one-way ticket to Swoontown!

March 1, 2013 at 7:03 PMDaniel Radcliffe is 5’5″. He’s not really my type but some girls think he’s dreamy. LOL.
Also, all the guys who played Hobbits in the Lord of the Rings series are right around 5’6″ too. Some of them are pretty good looking.
Random. 🙂

March 1, 2013 at 7:13 PMOh…it’s so pretty! I love love love that little kitchen. I don’t mind small kitchens at all if they are pretty like this one. You scared me for a minute when you said Ryan was short….I was like What!!!! NO!!!! Bubble burst…thank goodness you were just being funny.

March 1, 2013 at 7:16 PMI’ve often wished I was shorter because there are so many hot guys that are too short for me. (Yeah, that’s the reason I’m not with them. Sure.) Oh, and the new kitchen is GORGEOUS!

March 1, 2013 at 7:51 PMI have the same question as Maryanne – where’s the dishwasher?
But WOW – a truly fabulous improvement. Gorgeous!
(PS I can’t believe nobody mentioned Tom Cruise – who is the first person I think of when anybody mentions ‘vertically challenged Hollywood actors’)

March 2, 2013 at 12:35 AMWe’re working out a kitchen remodel (planning phase) and one option is to move our sink. We’ve wondered what it would be like to have a sink under a full cabinet like this. Is it a pain? [We don’t have a window to place a sink under no matter how we arrange things – right now it’s on a penninsula.] This is a beautiful kitchen!

March 2, 2013 at 12:55 AMIts beautiful! The only thing I would change is the refrigerator. It is to big but I am sure there wasn’t much selection, unless you want to double your remodeling budget. Come on people our refrigerators are getting way too big!

March 2, 2013 at 1:16 AMAre these refaced cabinets? A DIY cabinet refinishing or are these all new cabinets? I only ask because I have the hideous before cupboards! Help!

March 2, 2013 at 1:45 AMHey! Don’t bag 5’6″ I am 5’6″!!! Ok, that’s off my chest. That kitchen is now just making me want to get up and make something, probably a mess, in my kitchen. That is one sexy cuchina!

March 2, 2013 at 2:12 PMThank you, Lindsay, for featuring our kitchen reno. In answer to comments, we ex-ed the D/W in favor of symmetry; there are only 2 of us. We had new cabinets installed instead of re-facing and we narrowed the width of center cabinets. Upper glass cabinet is recessed in 3” from the face of flanking upper cabs, 9” deep instead of 12”. Thank you for the kind comments. BTW, kitchen measures 7’5” long…bigger than any Hollywood hunk 🙂

March 4, 2013 at 1:21 AMLove that tile used for the backsplash! Would you mind sharing the details? I am looking for something exactly like it for my own renovation.
Lynn
March 4, 2013 at 12:16 PMThe backsplach is from Home Depot, 1″ x 2″ Arctic Ice glass tile. A box of 10 sheets costs $9.97. I bought them in store at the end of September 2012; they were also on line. (Just checked and they are still on line and have other sizes as well).

March 5, 2013 at 10:28 PMI can’t believe anybody would be willing to get rid of a dishwasher!!! I’m only one person and really wish I had one! I know some days I don’t have enough to run a load, but I like to cook and those dishes don’t wash themselves.

March 7, 2013 at 10:29 PMI LOVE the new cabinets! Gorgeous! Lynn (if you are still here), would you mind sharing where you found them?

March 14, 2015 at 8:08 PMI love this remodel! I have the same exact size kitchen and want a makeover! Any ballpark estimate on how much it was? Looks fabulous!

January 24, 2016 at 2:05 PMI literally have this exact kitchen…can you give an idea of cost? And did you do the cabinets and counters from a big box store Custom?
