You would never know it, but behind this innocuous bathroom wall were stone walls over 150-years-old! Or whatever 2013 minus 1851 equals. It’s way too early to be mathy. Close enough.
See, Holly at Old Stone Walls is in the process of restoring her home – built in 1851 – back to its original farmhouse charm, which means many long hours spent chipping out old mortar from between each of these decades old stones to get it in the rustic/modern shape it’s in today.
Gorgeous! Totally worth the crippling arthritis it probably caused.
But that was only a small glimpse of what Holly and her husband had in store for their house. At some point in time, someone had added the unfortunate addition you see below. It didn’t jibe with the rest of the home, nor was it built to last even half as long as the original stone portion, so down it came. Yes, the whole dang thing! Holly and her husband tore it right off and rebuilt it so that it incorporated the original home seamlessly, not to mention bringing everything up to code, which is somewhat important you know.

January 21, 2013 at 4:05 PMWe have been renovating/restoring our 1921 home now going on year four. We have been chipping away at uncovering the center brick chimney so it will be completely exposed on all three floors. So much work but so worth it..!

January 21, 2013 at 10:53 PMI really do love the new bathroom. My only problem with it is the 2nd sink. You’re standing right next to the toilet and don’t have much room. Other than that I would so want as mine.
