Folks, it is nearing that time again. The most wonderful time of the year. Better After’s Annual Ugly Lamp Contest time! Start keeping your eyes peeled for an ugly lamp to submit. Perhaps you and your ugly lamp will be this year’s big winner! You don’t have to actually OWN the lamp, but it does need to be an original picture, like one you took yourself at a thriftstore or somesuch. No just googling “ugly lamps.”
ANYWAY, more details will be coming soon, but you can check out previous years contenders HERE and HERE. And to get you in the spirit of things, here is an ugly lamp from Charlene. It didn’t stay ugly for long however, after she turned its frown upside down with white paint and the girliest little lampshade ever. Adorable.

June 21, 2012 at 1:48 AMI had to laugh about your contest–we tease my MiL all the time about her ugly lamps. Now the problem is deciding which one to submit……..

June 21, 2012 at 7:04 PMI don’t know that the lamp is too bad, but that pink lampshade is hideous. Sorry, it may have been fub for someone to make, but that’s a definite epic fail!

June 21, 2012 at 7:11 PMOh, Anonymous, it’s not an epic fail, let’s see YOUR house and all your ‘fub’. It works in a little girl’s room. I’m surprised at the “Hmms” checks-this gal used what she had, and Charlene gets kudos for that, and props for the handmade shade.
That’s my 2 cents.

This was the inspiration. I used an old Sleeping Beauty costume for the new shade.

June 29, 2012 at 6:29 PMHey Charlene 🙂 LOVE your lamp! I’m new to the up-cycling scene. I have a very similar one you did here. Can you give me a little bit of info about how you did yours? Is it just white spray paint or….?
