Once upon a time, fluffy florals interspersed with manly stripes in everyone’s favorite color combo — mauve and maroon — was all the hip rage in fabric. Or something. I do recall having curtains similar to this in our family room growing up, so I guess it was really hot for a while there.
Once upon another time, a fabric made with alternating bands of four dark and four light threads woven in a simple two-over, two-under twill, or traditional houndstooth check as it came to be known, was also all the rage… and continued to be hip for hundreds of years.
I’ll choose the fabric with the lifespan of centuries, thank you.

February 1, 2011 at 1:45 AMSorry about the delete. What I said was that I think she did a great job of renewing that chair. That had to have been from the 1980’s because my neighbor had chairs just like that….the marriage of stripes and florals!
She did a great job matching the pattern and that is hard material to work with…looks really nice!

February 1, 2011 at 12:56 PMLove the houndstooth! I’m so impressed with how well she kept the pattern straight. I have no doubt that if I had tried that project, the pattern would be all wonky. Stunning makeover!

February 1, 2011 at 2:08 PMLove the houndstooth. I think every home in the late ’80’s and early 90’s had the old fabric somewhere. Makes you wonder what fabrics we’ll be laughing about in 20 years.
