I can’t imagine that the previous owners of this home set down their paintbrushes, stepped back and surveyed the utter atrociousness of what they had just done with blue paint and tacky star stencils and considered this a job well done. They probably just shut the door in shame and sold the house.
Thats where Mike and Katrina came in. They saw past the galaxy of gag and restored this room to the dignity it deserved. They employed one of my favorite tricks too, making a little window seem twice as big with strategically placed curtains and blinds. Those of you still rocking a teensy valance inside a teensy window, take note! Lots more to see on thier blog At Home Alterations.

December 9, 2010 at 7:54 PMHee hee! That’s a gorgeous, classy and clever makeover. I beg to differ with your assessment – I’m preeeetty sure the star-painters were extremely pleased with themselves. Hey, they’re entitled. But if they’d re-painted the room a nice Martha Stewart neutral before putting the house on the market, they’d have gotten 10K more for the place!!! Their loss = Mike and Katrina’s gain.

December 9, 2010 at 8:45 PMThanks for the feature Lindsey! I do think a child probably liked the room but we definitely wanted a change! The blue walls were one of the many things we had to see past when we bought the house but 8 months later we’re already in love… and there’s plenty more to do!
