Along Came a Spider

Congrats Camilla, for what might be the most horrifying before picture in the history of Better After! You could push this dresser off the top of a building and splinter it into a thousand pieces, and it still would still be better after, because at least then it might dispel the drawerfuls of spiders you know are in there.

Would you have guessed that this cleaned up nice enough to be a changing table in a nursery? Also check out the little nightstand that she found for free on the curb, also let sit out in the rain and snow for a couple of months (“I’m good with furniture like that,” she says) and totally transformed into girly cuteness against all odds. See more on her blog Rosy Red Buttons.

Bon Bons

Here’s a kitchen that went white but retained warmth, a tricky trick indeed. Bonnie from Creative Decorating on a Budget painted just about every surface in this kitchen, including the countertops! A glaze over the cabinets gives the look more depth and the faux copper backsplash adds a little sparkle.

I am impressed with anyone that tackles a kitchen makeover like this, especially around the holidays. I guess fear of serving your relatives a Christmas dinner of microwaved nachos in your bedroom would give you extra incentive to get it done!

Pretty Pukey

Coffee table makeovers are especially exciting to me right now because I find myself in need of one, due to an unfortunate series of miscommunications a few weeks ago which resulted in craigslist buyers walking away with all of my living room furniture right down to the throw pillows, when I specifically instructed my husband to only sell only the couches, this is what happens when I go out of town, sigh.

Anyhoo,
I’m suppressing my ragetotally over it.

So this one is especially inspiring, from Kammy at Kammy’s Korner. She found this table for $1 at a yard sale, painted it black, popped out the petrified swirls of cat vomit inserts and had glass cut to fit instead. Easy, breezy, beautiful!

Dressing Up

So how was your weekend? I did spray paint some things, as promised, but then I forgot they were in my driveway, and I backed over them with the car! Ha! Oh well, at least it wasn’t anything priceless.
Anyway, here are some redos that turned out well and didn’t ever get run over by a car, as far as I know, from Better After reader Nicole.

Now, just because your eyes are closed for 90% of the time spent in your bedroom, it doesn’t mean the furniture can’t be beautiful! Nicole was ready to give up on her hand-me-down nightstand and dresser until she found some inspiration from a certain green dresser featured on this very blog! {this one HERE}.

Seaside Treasures

I’m so excited to introduce you to Better After’s newest sponsor, Janice from Seaside Treasures! Janice is quite literally one of my favorite people walking this earth. You won’t find a sweeter, more genuine and gracious woman anywhere, this much I know is true.

She is always designing and decorating and most often finds her inspiration from the sea. She has incorporated this into her shop, offering several sweet seaside gifts, including…

giant sand dollars, with the Christmas poem The Legend of the Sand Dollar included. This would make a lovely gift or an extra-special Christmas ornament. Or both! No need to be exclusive! Click HERE to read the poem.

A sweet assortment of shells and candles, sure to bring a touch of the seaside to any home. The candles are lightly scented and made with the highest quality wax. Each comes wrapped in tulle and ribbon, with display plate and a quote from Ann Morrow Lindburg’s Gift from the Sea.

And if your budget is a little bigger, and you are of the LDS persuasion, Seaside Treasures also offers 18×25 custom printed and framed Family Proclamations.

If you would like a Proclamation on your wall that is beautiful, not to mention actually readable, then do check these out. (If this all is greek to you, you can click here for more information).

.

So, do you have any fun plans this weekend? I’m planning to spray paint stuff. Maybe I’ll even take pictures! Which reminds me…I just noticed that many of your submissions have been going into my JUNK folder! Yikes! That means I may not have ever even seen them among all those Nigerian lotteries that I’ve won and ads for cheap meds.

If you’ve sent me something and never heard back, please send again! I promise to be more vigilant before I purge my junk folder. Hope you have a great weekend friend!

Would you like to sponsor Better After? You should do it! Not only will your friends like you better, but I am having a special deal right now! Email me for more info: BetterAfter@live.com

Grand Gesture

Nikki had a friend who had suffered a tragic loss. It is so hard to know what to do in those situations. You want to say something, but you don’t want to say the wrong thing. You want to be helpful but you don’t want to intrude. So she came up with the perfect plan. She did what she does best and gave her friend a beautiful bedroom makeover.
Before, the room was nothing more than white walls and a king size mattress. With a budget of only $500 and mismatched collection of furniture finds, Nikki transformed it into a serene getaway full of soft colors and coziness. Lots of extra special details went into the room too, you can check out the whole story on her blog Grand Design.
