Hey there! Thanks so much for all your well-wishes and warm fuzzies and prayers as I slowly inch my way towards my due date. (Jan 30th!) The baby is just fine, but my pregnancy has dealt me a nasty hernia that has slowed me down a bit. It pretty much feels like I’m being stabbed in the side all day, everyday. Walking hurts, breathing hurts, it even hurts to put on a shirt. My doctor’s only solution was to press a bar of soap against my belly, then wrap it tight with an ace bandage. I’m totally serious. I think my doctor might not have actually graduated medical school. Or if he did, it was in like, 1824.
But it’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. And I’m happy to take it easy at home. I’m starting to get THOSE comments in public anyway. “You’re due WHEN?! You look like you could blow any minute!” Also, I got hugged by two complete strangers at the store today, so yeah. I’m good to hide out for a while.
Anyway! If you are still in the mood to reminisce about 2013, then join me for a quick look back at some of my very favorite posts of last year.
Starting with JANUARY!
I still love an all white kitchen, and mark my words: this one from Jessica at A Few of My Favorite Things is an instant classic. It’s like the Natalie Portman of kitchens. Beautiful in any realm of time or space or geography.

FEBRUARY found us exploring the 2013 color of the year: Emerald Green. Verdict: I’m a fan. I love what Pam at Simple Details did here by turning basic IKEA handles on their side for some unexpected flair. And I super love gold and green together, so chic!
More emerald makeovers to see on the original post Totally Oz-some.
MARCH: who knew home-schooling could be so downright magical? This super dreamy school room Amy of Playing Sublimely created almost makes me want to homeschool my kids too. Almost. Doesn’t it look like a candy shop? A candy shop of learnin’!

APRIL was a hard month to choose just ONE from, so many great projects! But I have a softy soft little spot in my heart for a really good makeunder, and this restoration job from Sarah at Trevi Vintage Design was a stunner. Just look what she discovered underneath that crud-tastic paint job.
Four other fabulous MCM makeovers/makeunders to see on the original post Mid Century Modern Magic.
MAY is a hot and humid month, so what better time to share this steam-punk inspired laundry room makeover from some of my favorite people: Jen at Epbot and her husband John. SO MANY cool details in this room, my favorite being the water heater disguised as an old-timey steam boiler.
Much more to see on the original post: Getting Steamy.
JUNE time is vacation time! Hit this road with this beautiful RV makeover from Audra at The Wright Family. You very well could have, she fixed it up to sell, and likely had no problems finding an eager buyer.
Get a closer look on the original post, RV Rockstar.
That’s all for today! Come back tomorrow for part two of the 2013 rundown. Do you have a favorite makeover that stands out in your mind? Tell me, tell me!

January 6, 2014 at 7:26 AMGod bless Sarah for rescuing that fantastic MCM dresser. People who paint over (unless the veneer is beyond restoration) or *shudder* distress MCM furniture should be flogged with wet noodles and all paint stores should be put on notice that they’re not allowed to sell to those individuals under Article USWhatTheDevilWereTheyThinking2.09

January 6, 2014 at 7:38 AMI’m due Jan 25, and beginning to understand why women at the end of their pregnancies are so very ready to be done. 🙂 Joints are out of whack, my worrymeter (before non-existent) is going whack-o, and though I want sleep, it is elusive. Here’s to finishing out the last few weeks!!
Lindsey @ Better After
January 6, 2014 at 10:05 AMYES! The worrymeter! Why does my brain have to get as out of whack as my body? I feel for you Casey, we’re almost there!

January 6, 2014 at 8:46 AMPrayers for a safe and uneventful delivery! Hugs are never a waste although I believe they are more for the giver than the receiver. Not saying that’s bad either. Put your feet up and enjoy these last weeks before the miracle arrives and things get a little louder. 😉 Sweet and Precious is almost here.
I love this blog!

January 6, 2014 at 8:54 AMI feel for you Lindsey, I know what it’s like the last few weeks of pregnancy, you just want to get the baby out! Take it easy and hope that hernia gets better…
Love the projects especially that RV!

January 6, 2014 at 9:30 AMOh Lindsey, of course you made me laugh even though I feel so badly for you, hang in there and I’ll be praying for a healthy early arrival!! Thank you so much for the AWESOME highlight, that is just crazy to be included with all the amazing projects over here. 🙂

January 6, 2014 at 9:31 AMLindsey, so sorry to hear about the hernia! Man, I bet that hurts. You still manage to maintain a sense of humor though. I’m praying that you have relief from the pain until your doctor can offer a better treatment than a bar of soap.

January 6, 2014 at 10:19 AMHahaha, I love your comments on your doctor’s suggestions!
These are all great makeovers too – I vaguely remember them, but it’s fun to see them again! That midcentury dresser has to be my favorite 🙂

January 6, 2014 at 11:32 AMSo if it hurts to put on a shirt
And a bar of soap is the ‘scrip’
Give your sweetie a chance to flirt
And operate that shirt’s zip!
Lindsey @ Better After
January 6, 2014 at 2:54 PMHahaha, that’s great. My sweetie has been commanded to stay an arms distance!

January 6, 2014 at 1:50 PMI know your doctor’s suggestion sounds silly, but a wonderful website called Peoples Pharmacy suggests putting a bar of soap under your sheets for restless leg syndrome and it works. http://www.peoplespharmacy.com/2005/12/07/soap-under-the/ People’s Pharmacy is two married doctors who try homemade remedies before resorting to meds. Interesting site.

January 6, 2014 at 2:53 PMI actually have heard of the bar of soap for leg cramps, my Grandpa swore by it, but I think my Dr. meant it as a way to hold pressure against the hernia more than anything. Maybe worth a try? He didn’t seem too sure of the idea himself!

January 6, 2014 at 3:02 PMThanks for taking the time to comprise this wonderful post despite probably wanting to sit in a chair drooling out of the corner of your mouth while staring at a wall :). I pray for a easy and quick delivery!
I love the emerald dresser <3.

January 6, 2014 at 3:16 PMI’m sure you hear this all the time, but having my kitchen on your site was one of the highlights of my year. That and I just beat 6 guys in a holiday football pool!

January 6, 2014 at 7:30 PMWhat is it with strangers wanting to hug pregnany women? I don’t get that one. On another note, I somehow missed the homeschool room makeover. Wow! Sure beats a traditional classroom. Thanks for keeping the makeovers coming even though you probably want nothing more than to sit quietly with your bar of soap. 🙂

January 6, 2014 at 11:54 PMGood luck with the end of your pregnancy, the bar of soap idea goes way back to before modern medicine, hope it helps relieve your pain.
Now my favorite from this list would be the RV remodel. I seriously considered buying an RV and fixing it up to live in full time then gave up that idea when I realized just how difficult it would be to keep warm in the cold winters.

January 9, 2014 at 10:38 AMI am due February 14th and I am getting those looks in public and the comments I’m getting at work are ridiculous (e.g.- “WHOOOOAAAA!!!”, “DAAAAAANGGG!”, “ummm how are you feeling these days?!”) not to mention the unsolicited belly touching… I am so ready to be done. This is #2 for me so I’m so much bigger and more uncomfortable this time. My SI joint is out of place on my left side so I feel like my hip is detached from my body. So not cool. I will hope for an easy delivery for you and a smooth last few weeks (and success with the bar of soap)!

January 9, 2014 at 11:23 AMAhh, it’s so true! I’m getting so grouchy. I was complaining to my husband last night, after another round of public humiliation, and said “The only thing pregnant women want you to say to them is nothing! Just say nothing!” I’m just tired of discussing the ins and outs of my pregnancy with the cashiers at Walmart I guess. Good luck with baby #2! These last few weeks can’t go by fast enough!

January 9, 2014 at 7:39 PMJust here to jump up and down excitedly and tell you if the bub comes on 30th Jan, that’ll be MY birthday!! HItler also did something history worthy too, but I can’t recall what (and I only read about it days ago). Rest assured, I’m a lovely lady (girl – come on, I’m 28 with no kids!) and make my mother proud, as will your baby! I was also an ace sleeper… See good news all around.

July 12, 2014 at 6:12 PMThis was fun to see & remember all those great makeovers! How’s the hernia, btw?
