Here comes another kitchen makeover that makes me want to throw a tantrum in the middle of my kitchen, screaming “Wrong! Wrong! It’s all SO WRONG!!!!” And that’s how I feel about my kitchen on a good day. I’ve probably told you this before, but the previous owners of our home chose for the kitchen a red/orange tile, red/orange countertops and red/orange cabinets, coupled with mustard and burgundy paint colors. The paint, we’ve since remedied, but everything else has felt kind of all-or-nothing to me. Where do you even start, unless you do everything at once? However, I think this year is the year to get my butt in gear, and I’ve figured that I might as well start with flooring, so we’ll see. Maybe I’ll have my own Better After kitchen to show you soon! What a notion.
But for now, do enjoy Jessica’s Brilliant White kitchen, which is so heavenly, I think I hear angels singing. See more on her blog A Few of My Favorite Things.

January 17, 2013 at 3:51 PMI love that they just painted the existing cabinets rather than replacing them… it makes me crazy when people rip out (and often destroy) perfectly solid cabinetry because they don’t like the color! I could have lived with the oak just fine, but I can see why the countertop especially had to go. Very nice make-over!

January 17, 2013 at 3:23 PMI really like the gold tone handles! So often these days people go with nickel or oil rubbed bronze – it’s a nice personal touch!

January 17, 2013 at 3:30 PMLindsey, check this out for your countertop: http://www.encorecountertop.com/
I’m not a spokesperson or anything, I just used it over my white ceramic tile countertops that I hated and it is amazing. I now have solid surface smooth awesomeness. Not sure if it would help you but I just had to share!

January 17, 2013 at 5:11 PMThat is awesome. It totally went from manufactured home look to hello magazine cover look! Very inspiring!

January 17, 2013 at 5:32 PMI’m with anonymous on this one – I also hate when people tear out solid wood cabinets ( and often replace them with inferior quality ) I LOVE how this turned out – and the gold handles are just perfection!!!

January 17, 2013 at 8:27 PMThis is amazing! I love the brass handles…or gold?? I have been seeing this colour everywhere lately…is brass, or gold back? Do I need to get with the times? Because I love these!

January 17, 2013 at 8:39 PMI love that she slip-covered her chairs. I also have dated, but sturdy, pine chairs that I hate. A slip cover could be the solution!

January 17, 2013 at 9:56 PMThat looks (more-so in the before) almost just like our neighbor’s kitchen, which is a cleaner mirror-image of ours. 😉

January 17, 2013 at 10:28 PMThanks so much for the feature! We got our drawer pulls (technically the color is “antique brass”) at Restoration Hardware.com on clearance and the top cabinet pulls are from Home Depot (also clearanced Martha Stewart!) I went back and forth on the metal finishes for the kitchen and I am so glad I went with the antique brass!

January 18, 2013 at 5:26 PMGreat makeover! We’re currently house hunting. Can’t count the number of kitchens I’ve seen that would look so much better with a coat of paint.
This looks so fresh now.
