Friends, guess what? I am headed to LA this weekend to see Electric Light Orchestra in concert! When I saw that they were touring for the first time in 30 years, I felt strongly that it was my duty as a citizen of Earth to see their show. Did you not feel compelled in your heart to do the same? Do you not like ELO?? Of course you do. Strange Magic? Give that a listen. Evil Woman? Who doesn’t like that one? Everyone doesn’t not like it, that’s who. I said what I said.
So those are my weekend plans, and other than that, I don’t really know what else to do with myself in LA. It’s not a city I am familiar with. If you have some favorite LA haunts, will you share?
If you don’t have weekend plans that include a Xanadu singalong, I feel bad for you son, but here’s something you can do: go find a pair of outdated nightstands, take off the outdated doors, and give them makeover in navy blue. Play Mr. Blue Sky in background as you paint. You’ll have so much fun and a sassy pair of nightstands to show off when you’re done.
Cute huh? Check them out on Carrie’s blog Thirty Eighth Street where you can find the exact shade of blue she used.

August 3, 2018 at 6:31 PMI love LA and since I live about an hour away, we go fairly often! Try having lunch at Grand Central Market. It’s like a huge food court with lots of amazing trendy and ethnic food options. Angel’s Flight, featured in LaLa Land is right across the street. You can also walk to The Last Bookstore from there, you can look it up, it’s awesome! LACMA is cool and there is a really neat permanent exhibit with hundreds of street lamps set up outside it as well as the Levitating Rock. There are usually a bunch of food trucks with really great food outside the museum too. Little Tokyo is great too, especially for souvenirs. There’s a really good ramen house there too. I can’t think of the name, but it always has a long line. Olvera Street is really cool and a good place for Mexican food and souvenirs too. Griffith Observatory is always great at sunset and into the evening. You can go inside the observatory, see the Hollywood sign, and look at the city lights. Enjoy your time in LA and try not to mind the traffic, it’s just a part of life here. It’s worth putyup with because LA is an amazing city!

August 4, 2018 at 5:35 AMSpent MANY days in LA when my son was at USC…not a “haunt” but if you see nothing else, go to the Griffith Observatory…sounds boring I know…but will not disappoint. So much more interesting than going down to “Hollywood.” If you are like me and like old cemeteries check out the one where Marilyn Monroe, Natalie Woods, Dean Martin, etc are buried…Pierce Bros. Westwood…macabre, I know but sooooo interesting!
Beck recently posted…Simple “before and afters”…

I love ELO. My very first time to win something from a radio station was their album. Eeeeeee!

August 4, 2018 at 4:40 PMHave fun at the ELO concert. They are one of my faves! This is gonna show my age… but we loved to roller skate to their songs at the skating rink when we were kids!!!! I love those night stands. I am on a navy kick right now and have painted quite a few pieces navy here recently.

August 4, 2018 at 5:08 PMCarrie did an amazing job with those nightstands! They’re gorgeous! I spent a little time in LA when my son was at UCLA. I liked the Getty Museum and Santa Monica Pier. Have fun at the ELO concert! My hubby and I just saw One Republic at the Stadium of Fire at BYU and had such a blast. We’re in our mid 50s, but we were rockin’ out! 🙂
